The release of Mattel’s So in Style collection of black dolls, the first ever with wider noses, fuller lips and in a variety of skin shades, has been met with disappointment. Parents are saying the prevalence of green and blue eyes as well as long, fine hair is not representative of the race. Mattel is listening though, and is working on the fall 2010 collection, adding a doll with more of an Afro hairstyle. [WSJ]

Model Ellen Harth. Image via WWD.com Sixties model Ellen Harth died Sunday at the age of 71. The Berlin-born Harth modelled for many top designers in her youth, eventually going on to open her own modelling agency, which would become an offshoot of Elite Models. [WWD]

Photography by Peter Stigter Judging from the colourful assortment of YSL bags, Marni necklaces and Louboutin ankle booties trotting around fashion week, the Bryant Park tents appear to be recession-proof. Whispers throughout the day said otherwise, with editors and buyers repeatedly asking “Where is everybody this season?” But it’s early, so I am decidedly optimistic (despite my NYC-approved all black ensemble).
