Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane are costume contenders in The Hunger Games sequel
Despite being set in a dystopian future, style inspiration for the highly anticipated second Hunger Games film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire seems to be rooted in the futuristic fashions of today. In a series of stills gradually being released by the studio, Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks are shown wearing looks that appear to be inspired by the Fall 2012 collections of Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane.
The Telegraph has confirmed that brand representatives from Alexander McQueen are denying that any dresses were custom-made for the movie, but the style inspiration is unmistakable. In one image Banks, who plays the uptight Effie Trinket, wears a standout look with red ruffles that fits right in with Sarah Burton’s Fall 2012 Alexander McQueen collection. Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence also dons a McQueen-esque look in a promotional image which shows Katniss Everdeen looking as regal as a queen. The Telegraph shares another image that has Katniss on stage with co-winner of the Hunger Games and potential love interest Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) wearing a sleek dress with Christopher Kane’s signature moiré pattern from his Fall 2012 collection.

Nail Corner: We do Effie’s over-the-top caviar manicure from The Hunger Games!
Aside from the excitement of the movie itself, obviously the best thing from The Hunger Games are the crazy manicures that Effie Trinket wears throughout. Unfortunately, only of a few are available to view close up (come on, Lions Gate Films, give fans a full gallery of nail art screen grabs!) but to our delight, one of the more intricate designs was shared by Elizabeth Banks—who of course, played the role of Effie. These Hunger Games nails include the soon-to-be-everywhere trend of caviar manicures—that is, manis with tiny beads that add playful texture—and thus, inspiration for this week’s Nail Corner was born!

Like the rest of the world, we hit the theatres this weekend to see the much-anticipated The Hunger Games, and while there are so many things we could talk about (Lenny Kravitz’s gold eyeliner! the flame dress!), we’re most fixated on the peplum’s rise to mainstream movie popularity showcased in the film. Effie Trinket, the […]

Was Michelle Williams the best pick to play Marilyn Monroe? View our picks and vote for your favourite Hollywood bombshell
By Emily Burke
We’re still buzzing about My Week With Marilyn, the newly released film starring Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe, a great film based on the actress’ time in London while filming The Prince and the Showgirl during the 1950s. Williams is a premier indie darling, famed for her heartbreaking (and Oscar nominated) roles in Blue Valentine and Brokeback Mountain. Toss her into any indie flick and ask her to play the hardened but sympathetic beauty, and her many admirers will eat it up. She carries herself as a serious woman with a sharp mind. She is absolutely sexy, but it’s hard to separate that sex appeal from her innocent intellect or her pixie cut and teensy frame. Reviews of her performance as Marilyn have been split between raves and criticisms, and we wonder whether another Hollywood It girl might have suited the role a bit better. Who do you think suits the role of Marilyn Monroe best?

The first full trailer for The Hunger Games is here. Watch it now!
Edward who? The just-released full trailer for The Hunger Games has us totally forgetting about that other epic young adult obsession in theatres this week—can it please be March 23rd now? While the dystopian world of Katniss, Prim, Peeta, and Gale looks a little bit different than we imagined (the forest seems more Jurassic Park than post-apocalyptic) the action and emotion of the books is all there. Here are the other reasons we’re replaying it over and over:

FALL FILMS
OUR IDIOT BROTHER
Paul Rudd as a cheerful stoner.
A grinning, bearded Paul Rudd—clad in baggy attire and Crocs—sweetly agrees to sell a little non-sanctioned herb to a despondent police officer in uniform while manning a farmer’s market stall. Promptly carted off to jail, he gets out early on good behaviour and returns to the fold of his three successful sisters—Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer and Elizabeth Banks—where family life proves to be entertainingly discordant.
