Movie-inspired hair and makeup: 3 Beauty Panel looks made popular by our favourite film heroines
There’s no question that films these days are playing a large role in the fashion and beauty industry (think Net-A-Porter x Hunger Games and M.A.C x Maleficent). So it’s kind of expected to see us all regularly channeling our favourite film heroines, especially when these collaborations make it so easy to cop. And who doesn’t want to borrow some of that leading lady confidence? While rocking our favourite movie looks is usually saved for Halloween, that doesn’t mean we can’t try to incorporate movie-inspired hair and makeup in our everyday lives. So this week, we asked Beauty Panel to do just that. From Katniss Everdeen’s much-coveted braid to Cher Horowitz’s ‘90s hair and makeup, Beauty Panel members are showing off their favourite movie-inspired beauty looks they’re rocking all year round.

The new Hunger Games: Mockingjay posters look a lot like fashion ads
See The Hunger Games: Mockingjay posters »
Although the next installment of The Hunger Games doesn’t hit theatres until November, seven new haunting posters have been revealed as teasers for the upcoming Mockingjay – Part 1 have been released and well, don’t they look just like Benetton ads? Gripping, stylish and slightly disturbing, these images highlight the unfamiliar faces that the posters claim are the real heroes of each district. With no trace of Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) or Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), it’s an IRL mimic of the film’s dystopian nature.
“Today we celebrate the proud men and women who live and breathe their districts. Today we are one Panem,” says President Snow on The Capitol’s faux website. We can’t help but be taken with the new heroes, which probably has a lot to do with how they are cleverly styled to complement their district. Take Naida Dolan of The Fishing District’s runway-ready fish net gown, or Felix Stam, representing the Livestock District in a mammoth-like dark fur jacket, for example. Or the young girl from District 12 covered in coal soot with a mining helmet beside her and mask in her lap. Stark.

Cover Girl is releasing a makeup collection and 12 high-concept looks in celebration of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
See the Cover Girl looks for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire »
A few months ago Cover Girl announced their partnership with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with a somewhat-mysterious teaser poster and last night we finally got to see what they’ve been up. The Capitol Collection—set to launch in October—will be a complete colour cosmetics collection from the beauty brand, though specific details are still under wraps. However, Cover Girl had Dottie, their Capitol makeup artist (that’s right—the Capitol as in, of Panem) create twelve unique beauty looks, inspired by the twelve districts from the film/books.
The looks are something like you’d expect to see during couture week—they’re high-concept and extremely alluring. And for maximum delayed-gratification-ness, only two of the twelve have been released so far. Luxury, for District 1, is perfectly blinged-out with a deep, dramatic red lip. And Fishing, for District 4, is a deep-sea fantasy complete with bejewelled eyes and holographic shimmer.

Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane are costume contenders in The Hunger Games sequel
Despite being set in a dystopian future, style inspiration for the highly anticipated second Hunger Games film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire seems to be rooted in the futuristic fashions of today. In a series of stills gradually being released by the studio, Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks are shown wearing looks that appear to be inspired by the Fall 2012 collections of Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane.
The Telegraph has confirmed that brand representatives from Alexander McQueen are denying that any dresses were custom-made for the movie, but the style inspiration is unmistakable. In one image Banks, who plays the uptight Effie Trinket, wears a standout look with red ruffles that fits right in with Sarah Burton’s Fall 2012 Alexander McQueen collection. Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence also dons a McQueen-esque look in a promotional image which shows Katniss Everdeen looking as regal as a queen. The Telegraph shares another image that has Katniss on stage with co-winner of the Hunger Games and potential love interest Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) wearing a sleek dress with Christopher Kane’s signature moiré pattern from his Fall 2012 collection.

TIFF 2012: Jennifer Lawrence hung out with Kristen Stewart at the Soho House last night (Jake Gyllenhaal, Kate Hudson and Andy Samberg were there too!)
See the Soho House party photos »
As per usual, the Grey Goose Soho House was hoppin’ and poppin’ with celebs last night, as the staple spot hosted private parties for The Reluctant Fundamentalist, End of Watch and Silver Linings Playbook. Kate Hudson, in a Gwyneth-at-the-Oscars-esque white floor-length Atelier Versace dress, mingled pre-The Reluctant Fundamentalist red carpet. The bearded and babeular Jake Gyllenhaal popped by too, to toast his film End of Watch alongside Anna Kendrick and America Ferrera (who is really looking great these days, we might add).
At that point, it was still early and the celebs in attendance were all chatting up their co-stars and pals. But then Jennifer Lawrence showed up, and completely flipped the celebs-who-are-friends continuum on its head when she, in a body-hugging scale-like dress, started chatting to none other than Kristen Stewart! Could Katniss and Bella be new BFFs? Could a Twilight-meets-The Hunger Games movie be in the works? Are we taking this too far? Maybe. Kristen Stewart, who seemed to have shaken Thursday night’s glamazon look, was back to her usual jeans-and-t-shirt pairing. As an equally awesome addition to the mix: Jennifer Lawrence’s parents Gary and Karen Lawrence were also in attendance at the Soho House to toast their daughter’s TIFF premiere.
