All hail Lily-Rose Depp, the new face of Chanel
It seems like yesterday that we were singing, “Who’s That Girl?” about Lily-Rose Depp and just like that, she has ascended the throne of Spawn Supreme. The 16-year-old daughter of Cry-Baby Walker and Vanessa Paradis has been announced as Chanel’s latest ambassadress, only four months after her proverbial cotillion at the brand’s Metiers d’Art show […]

Attending alongside French songstress mother, Vanessa Paradis (herself a […]

Chanel Métiers d’Art: See the A-list front row from last night’s show in New York
This past week, the hills New York City was alive with the sound of Karl Lagerfeld and his Chanel posse taking the Big Apple (and our Instagram feed) by storm. Taking the most recent Métiers d’Art Salzburg show on the road, the Kaiser (and his team) transformed New York’s Park Avenue Armory into an opulent […]

Chanel’s Cruise show brings glitzy celebrity style: Who was best dressed in Dubai?
See the Chanel Cruise celebrity style up close »
Given the fact that the Chanel 2014 Cruise collection took place in Dubai, there was never a doubt the A-list guest list would be anything short of the best.
Dancing to the tunes of Janelle Monae in the jewel of a city, celebrities were dressed in the most recent Chanel-clad ensembles, making any fan of the designer house swoon with envy. One to lean towards more gentleman-inspired outfits, Tilda Swinton surprised us in an elegant black tweed dress that featured a corset-inspired cut from the Fall 2014 collection. Dakota Fanning also sported a similar silhouette standing out against the grey skyline in a multi-colour feather-inspired Spring 2014 couture dress. But if it were a competition of who embodied the culture of the city best with their sartorial choices, it would have to go to long-time ambassadress Vanessa Paradis and Freida Pinto. While Paradis teamed a ‘20s-inspired hairstyle with an ivory sleeveless embroidered dress, we loved how the Indian actress worked a frilly two-piece ensemble from the Pre-Fall 2014 collection making it the ideal outfit for the desert city.

Couldn’t get to the exhibit? Chanel’s Little Black Jacket launches as a website
See photos from Chanel’s Little Black Jacket exhibition »
We have all heard of the Little Black Dress, the origins of which can be traced back to designs of Coco Chanel’s from the 1920s. But what do we know of the Little Black Jacket? Luckily for us, Chanel has a website devoted to this iconic piece of clothing.
Karl Lagerfeld has been celebrating this classic piece of fashion history in his new book, The Little Black Jacket: CHANEL’S classic revisited by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld, and with a new exhibition on display in London a couple of weeks ago that will make its way to Tokyo, Paris and New York among other cities.
But if you don’t live in any of the cities that the exhibition is traveling to, don’t fret as Chanel’s website has it available to view online. The result is a who’s-who’s of the fashion and celebrity crowd showcased in over 100 photographs of them putting their own spin on the jacket. The innovative online exihibtion takes Alice Dellal to Vanessa Paradis among others on a unique animated spin across your computer screen.

Chanel announces Brad Pitt as the new face of Chanel No. 5 with a video celebrating its tradition as a game-changing fragrance
After 91 years, Chanel has the recipe for perfume success locked down: Beautiful woman, timeless scent, timeless bottle. But while the formula for Chanel No. 5 itself will never change, Chanel is modifying their marketing with an interesting twist: Brad Pitt has signed on as the newest face of Chanel No. 5 face, making him the first man to represent a women’s fragrance.

Dispatch from Versailles: Check out our top 25 looks (we had trouble choosing) from Chanel’s Marie Antoinette-meets-punk Cruise collection
Crunch, crunch, crunch. The sound of platform sneakers on pea gravel signalled the start of the Chanel Resort 2013 show, with models emerging from a wall of greenery in the sprawling parterre garden of Versailles. A convoy of 300 black cars had chauffeured press and clients from Paris to the former home of Marie Antoinette for the event, which included a punk performance with Alice Dellal thrashing away on drums. The collection had many nods to the past: 18th century panniers, decorative stomachers and frilled sleeves, and cropped court wigs over ribbon-tied ponytails, all blended with cropped jackets and knickers in sugary pastels. Tilda Swinton, Vanessa Paradis and Inès de la Fressange mingled afterwards in a hot house with Lagerfeld, who was laden with jewellery including a delicate emerald pin. Emeralds and punk? Marie Antoinette and Coco Chanel? Quintessential Lagerfeld-style mash-ups.

They said/We said: A new study has found that a woman reaches her sartorial prime at age 35
Gone are the days of teenage style icons (okay, maybe not the eternally best-dressed Fanning sisters), when Britney Spears’ plaid miniskirts were the norm. A British study by retailer CC has found that a woman reaches her sartorial prime at age 35. Three out of four women felt their style improved after their 20s with one in three women saying they looked the best they ever had in their 30s.
What gives? Apparently it all comes down to self-confidence, wisdom and maturity. Empowered mid-30-year-olds know how to reference the latest trends with enough confidence to carry them off.
So naturally, we made a list of our personal style icons (think: Chloë Sevigny, Kate Lanphear, Vanessa Paradis, the list goes on) and found that—shocker—they’re all around 35.
And it doesn’t stop at 35. Arguably the best part of this whole study was that iconoplast Helen Mirren beat out Kate Middleton (another 30-year-old) as the celebrity woman most considered to be in her prime. She’s 66! We can’t say we’re surprised though—have you seen her in a bikini? She’s a total knockout.
It’s high time we recognize the style contributions of the mature set. The success of blogs like Advanced Style has shown that style doesn’t fade with age. We aspire to dress like those women. Just look at two of M.A.C’s most recent collections: Carine Roitfeld and Iris Apfel. Both mature ladies and both with closets we’d gladly dive into.

Better than Gosling? Watch this sexy Frenchman do hair while narrating in a Serge Gainsbourg voice
Dashing off to Paris for the weekend to get your hair done not an option? Don’t fret—we just discovered something that will make you feel like you’re at a salon in le Marais. Cut by Fred is a beauty blog by French hairstylist Frédéric Birault, who made a career styling hair on fashion shoots, film sets, and for chanteuses like Vanessa Paradis. The blog is home to dozens of dreamy Instagram-ish video tutorials of Birault styling the hair of friends and clients, with him murmuring directions as pop songs play in the background. We don’t speak French fluently, but imagine the narrative goes something like this: “Now, I caress my hand up the back of your neck and whisper ‘I love you’ in your ear, and place a bobby pin there. And another. And another. It’s so simple. Here, take my hand…”

Celeb poll: Who was best dressed at TIFF?
Praise the red carpet gods! The stars really pulled out all the stops this year at TIFF, which was great to see, given some years’ lackluster outings. Lace, length, and print were big trends this year, and so were megawatt designers, from Marisa Tomei‘s Proenza Schouler, to Madonna‘s Tom Ford, to Elizabeth Olsen‘s Erdem. They’re all big winners in our eyes, but if you HAD to choose, who would be your favourite? Vote after the jump!

Popcorn at the ready, we’re looking forward to a season of intriguing fare.
FALL FILMS
OUR IDIOT BROTHER
Paul Rudd as a cheerful stoner.
A grinning, bearded Paul Rudd—clad in baggy attire and Crocs—sweetly agrees to sell a little non-sanctioned herb to a despondent police officer in uniform while manning a farmer’s market stall. Promptly carted off to jail, he gets out early on good behaviour and returns to the fold of his three successful sisters—Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer and Elizabeth Banks—where family life proves to be entertainingly discordant.
