Bonnaroo 2014: 15 of the coolest performer looks, from Kanye West to Die Antwoord
See the Bonnaroo 2014 performer looks here »
While Toronto’s music lovers were getting ready for the MMVAs, festival goers from around the globe headed south to Manchester, Tennessee for the annual Bonnaroo music fest. With performers like Elton John, Kanye West, Vampire Weekend, Die Antwoord, First Aid Kit and Frank Ocean dominating the stage, the 3-day concert was a versatile music-enthusiast’s dream.
Always on the look for the latest music festival garb, this year’s Bonnaroo had us crazy for the stars. The performers totally brought it on stage with everything from First Aid Kit’s Johanna Soderberg’s hippie-chic dress to Cage the Elephant’s Matt Schultz’s eclectic rock & roll getup. Not to mention Kanye’s all-matching tie-dye outfit complete with chain and face mask (yes, face mask). Oh, and of course Kim was there cheering on her man in a barely (okay, literally not even) there top and white jeans.

Governors Ball 2014: 33 photos from New York’s music festival weekend
See the Governors Ball 2014 photos »
While Toronto was busy with Field Trip, festival season was simultaneously visiting New York for the fourth annual Governors Ball music festival. Getting bigger and better every year, the festival came through with a stellar lineup headlined by Outkast, Disclosure, Skrillex, Jack White and The Strokes, making it a must-see for indie rockers and EDM-lovers alike. Sunny skies made for a perfect weekend for the music festival hosted yearly on Manhattan-neighbouring Randall Island, making sunglasses, hats and cut-offs must-wears for the festival’s attendees.
What really caught our eye this year was the high-end accessories game. Whereas festivals are usually grounds for rough and tumble basics like cotton messenger bags and backpacks, this year’s Governors Ball 2014 attendees sported Chanel, Céline and an Olympia Le Tan milk carton minaudiere like it was no big deal. (How else to carry around your water, phone and lipstick?). We’ve rounded up the best looks of the weekend and to be honest, the bags really take the cake. Although how could we ignore the sequin dressed twins, fingernails painted as braces and the all-gold-everything get-up? Click through for the best in Governor’s Ball 2014 festival style as photographed by Sidewalk Hustle bloggess Hawley Dunbar.

Field Trip 2014: 54 stylish shots from the start of music festival season in Toronto
See the shots from Field Trip music festival in Toronto »
Festival season had its official Canadian start this weekend, as the second annual Field Trip music festival hit Toronto with a series of cacophonous bangs. Run by indie label Arts & Crafts, the two-day festival brought together homegrown darlings and international favourites like Interpol, The Kills, Austra, Washed Out, Cvrches and The Constantines. As is a now two-year tradition, local gods Broken Social Scene closed out the weekend with a 46-person set, as the crowd didn’t let the rain spoil the lively mood.
In what had to be the most perfect weather day of the year so far, Saturday’s almost 30 degree high had festivalgoers making use of the skin-baring assets of shorty short jorts, crop tops (with this season’s update: the thin strap) and protective oversized hats. In stark contrast, Sunday’s drizzle had attendees piling on the waterproof layers and creative makeshift ponchos out of colourful woven blankets.

Sick of flower crowns? 7 new and improved festival outfit ideas from our Style Panel
Toronto’s super hip Field Trip Festival is taking place this coming weekend, which means music festival season is soon upon us (hello festival fashion!). There’s no question we’re hard core fans when it comes to summer’s popular trend (here’s proof), but with festival style outfits making a coming back every year, you have to admit that the look is getting a little played out. So how do you stand out from the festival crowd amidst the crop tops, flower crowns and fringe-clad outfits? In addition to the street style edition of how-to do festival fashion, this week we challenged our Style Panel to share how they plan to get heads turning with new festival outfit ideas.
Though some versions of festival outfits may not be for everyone, Northern Style Exposure’s Kira Paran proves that there’s a festive outfit for everyone. Mixing a sequined dress with a cool denim shirt, Paran maintains the festival look while feeling comfortable in her own skin. While Sasha Xiao of Sasha’s Satisfashion and Christopher Wolf of Wolf Musings stayed away from the festival fashion dress code adding their own unique personality to their outfits with tips on how to transition from day to night, our newest Style Panel member Emma Walker of With A City Dream, showed us how to work an effortless-meets-practical festival look with this season’s must-have: the backpack.

Our top 10 music festival style picks: Relive summer 2013 with the best of the season’s non-hobo looks

No fashion challenge is quite as sticky (literally with temperatures at Pitchfork Festival nearing 40 degrees Celsius) as dressing for a music festival. With the weather and the crowds (don’t forget the likelihood of the grass quickly turning to sludge) the list of variables to consider is a long one. From coast to coast, the music festivals of summer 2013 have taken us far and wide. We snapped an array of stylish bohemians at California’s ever-popular Coachella and hip trend-setters at Chicago’s Pitchfork. We documented country’s most fabulous at Bowmanville’s newly established Boots and Hearts festival and young trendsetters and New York’s Governor’s Ball. We’re doing a festival style roundup- taking a look back at the ensembles that had set fashion senses a-tingling.

Boots and Hearts 2013: 30 cowboy-chic street style photos from Canada’s biggest country music festival
See the Boots and Hearts 2013 street style photos »
It’s time to get a little country! This weekend the Boots and Hearts festival brought some of the biggest country music acts to Ontario—as well as thousands of cowboy hat-wearing fans. Held in the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, the three-day festival rivalled Coachella in size with amusement park rides at one end and endless fields for camping at the other. And if anyone knows how to camp out under the stars in style, it’s country folk.
While festival style favourites—like crop tops—were plentiful, when you’re singing and dancing along to acts like Miranda Lambert and The Band Perry, the dress code is less flower crowns and more bandanas.

Is the August long weekend the end of music festival season? Say it ain’t so! However, in order to keep you in the spirit of summer festivals, we have a whole batch of street style snaps fresh from Osheaga 2013. The three-day indie festival is reaching peak popularity, with bands like Mumford & Sons, Vampire Weekend and Kendrick Lamar drawing fans from across the country to Montreal. And, thanks to the style-spotting eye of photographer Phil Birnbaum, it seems like the festival fashion at Osheaga is just as strong as the musical line-up. This may have something to do with the Osheaga’s downtown location, allowing attendees to stay in hotels rather than camping onsite.

Pitchfork 2013: 28 street style shots of Chicago’s hippest music crowd

It’s hard to believe it, but summer music festival season has already passed its halfway mark. Tear! With just under a month to go for the big North American parties, Chicago’s annual Pitchfork Music Festival luckily hit several stylistic home runs for us to drink up.
Pitchfork 2013 attendees seemed to channel their favourite acts, with ladies donning all over prints, bright hues and overalls in the vein of Pitchfork performers Solange and MIA. Several others went the Sky Ferreira route in downtown-approved mesh black numbers and dark velvet. There was even a literal idol translation, with one Pitchforker showing up in a version of Björk‘s famed swan dress from 2001. As for the fellas, summer essentials were abound, including denim button downs, cropped shorts, bright T-shirts, and of course, statement sneakers.
Check out this rad batch of Pitchfork 2013 street style as shot by Sidewalk Hustle‘s Hawley Dunbar and let us know which looks you love!

Bonnaroo 2013: 28 photos of hippie fashion at its best
See the Bonnaroo 2013 fashion photos »
While music lovers in Toronto were enjoying their sounds in breezy, comfortable settings, their southern counterparts were sweating it out at Bonnaroo, the 3-day music festival held just outside Nashville, Tennessee. As performers including Paul McCartney (Paul McCartney!), Wilco, Björk and R Kelly hit the various stages, so did their legions of hippie’d out fans. Bonnaroo attendees often take aesthetic inspiration from their country surroundings, with flower child meets cowboy style running rampant throughout the weekend. Bonnaroo 2013 was no different, with that carefree fashion extending to their attitudes as well. Need proof? Just peep the chick mid hula hoop dance! Good ole’ Bonnaroo.

NXNE 2013: 34 photos of the best fashion moments during Toronto’s weekend of music
See the NXNE 2013 fashion photos »
Toronto became music central this past weekend for the 18th annual North By Northeast. With NXNE 2013 happenings sprawling every end of the downtown core and even into private homes (Friday’s daytime BBQ concert at the legendary 159 Manning was a highlight), it was urban answer to festival season with jam-packed free performances by the likes of Ludacris and The National rocking Yonge and Dundas square. Luckily for us, stylish music fans were aplenty across the city’s various NXNE hubs and we caught some seriously awesome style moments with ease. Less flower child inspired than other festivals of the season, the NXNE 2013 vibe felt decidedly punk. Tattoos, ripped T-shirts and jean shorts were mainstays as were too-cool-for-school facial expressions (yeah, you know who you are). Our favourite accessory? A hearty smile.
