Osheaga 2013: 70 festival style photos of crop tops, tie-dye prints and the best hat ever (YOLO!)

Is the August long weekend the end of music festival season? Say it ain’t so! However, in order to keep you in the spirit of summer festivals, we have a whole batch of street style snaps fresh from Osheaga 2013. The three-day indie festival is reaching peak popularity, with bands like Mumford & Sons, Vampire Weekend and Kendrick Lamar drawing fans from across the country to Montreal. And, thanks to the style-spotting eye of photographer Phil Birnbaum, it seems like the festival fashion at Osheaga is just as strong as the musical line-up. This may have something to do with the Osheaga’s downtown location, allowing attendees to stay in hotels rather than camping onsite.

Inside the El Catrin launch: 15 shots of a stylish fiesta at Toronto’s newest Mexican restaurant
See the El Catrin launch photos »
Last week, Toronto launched its newest dining hotspot with a margartia-fuelled patio party. El Catrin, named for the dapper Mexican skeleton-in-a-suit icon, is a mix of family-friendly dining and stylish fiesta, located in an expansive space in the Distillery District.
Aside from its name, the decor at El Catrin features many takes on Day of the Dead imagery, from miniature shadowboxes to an impressive multi-dimensional mural. Created by Mexican street artist Oscar Flores, the vibrant work was photographed by party-goers throughout the night just as frequently as the food. (We were so enamoured with the mural we wanted to take it home with us!) Equally impressive was the rest of the restaurant’s design: oversized, laser-cut lampshades, rustic tiling and fluoro-bright tables and chairs make El Catrin stand out from the rest.

Inside the Joe Fresh afterparty: 20 photos of the stylish set proverbially kicking off their heels after the Fall 2013 fashion show
Check out the photos from the Joe Fresh after-party »
Given the well-heeled ladies and gents that show up for a Joe Fresh fashion show, you’d never believe the label’s wears run as affordably as they do. Though as any Loblaws shopper in Canada knows, they do. After last night’s punky all-black Fall 2013 outing, showgoers were looking to kick off their heels (proverbially speaking) with signature orange cocktails, mini tacos and pulsing DJ beats at the private watering hole, Storys.
Fresh off the Fresh runway, models Heather Marks, Meaghan Collison and a group of studly males in tight sweaters flooded the room with just enough impossible beauty to make the ogling worth it. Creative director Joe Mimran and wife Kimberley Newport-Mimran showed up in coordinated head-to-toe black suiting, adding their own luxe touch to the non-colour of the night. As the two cozied up to Loblaws frontman Galen Weston, nightclub impresario Charles Khabouth and our favourite dandy, Bruce C. Bailey, an informal dance party broke out with queen of the moves, Andrea Bolley, at the forefront. Just an average rip roaring night in Toronto as of late, it seems.

Summer festival season finally hit Canada this past weekend with Montreal’s annual fest, Osheaga. In between some seriously stellar sets from Eminem, Janelle Monáe as well as Canada’s own Death from Above 1979 and Crystal Castles, Toronto-based photographer Phil Birnbaum was snapping the fedora and feather-wearing pretties. Check out our favourites!
