Claire Danes vs. Jennifer Lawrence: Who wore red best at the 2013 Golden Globes?
See all the photos from the Golden Globes 2013 red carpet »
There were several trends on red carpet show at last night’s Golden Globes, and we’ll be looking back all day long by pitting two of the trend’s strongest supporters against each other in one on one red carpet polls. Do or die, some may say! First trend up: fiery red.
Jennifer Lawrence was outfitted in Dior Haute Couture—no surprise, as the new face of the Miss Dior handbags—with a classic ballgown shape. While Lawrence’s joke about not knowing what “haute” meant during her pre-show interview with E! fell flat on some fashion critics, how great she looked in the bright shade of red orange is undeniable, especially against her warm Katniss-dyed hair and tan. Lawrence’s Dior dress featured a gold metal belt showcasing her waist. The pointed bust looked to be inspired by a ‘50s-era bullet bra or Madonna’s infamous Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra. Jests aside, the classic shape and material allowed Jennifer Lawrence to shine.

Golden Globes 2013: 23 of the red carpet’s biggest, baddest and most beautiful dresses
See our photos from the Golden Globes 2013 red carpet »
Last night’s 70th annual Golden Globe Awards was a pretty epic lesson in red carpet trends. From the bright colours to the mermaid tails to the boob shows, the A-list all seemed to have consulted with each other’s stylists before arriving at the event. Red rose to the top of the colour charts, making bright appearances on Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture, Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta and Claire Danes in Versace. Richer shades were worn by Naomi Watts in Zac Posen, Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier and Lena Dunham in Zac Posen (the verdict’s still out on Dunham’s dress, though we really don’t like to speak negatively about such a precious human).
Pastels also seemed a strong message on the red carpet, with every hue in the candy coated rainbow being tested against the natural beauty of the night’s various stars. Jessica Alba‘s signature bronzed glow was offset by her creamsicle orange Oscar de la Renta trumpet gown. Meanwhile, Golden Globe winner Jessica Chastain chose the most ideal aquamarine on the colour wheel for her Calvin Klein gown. Bravo!
On the flip side, stark black and white (and even a combo of both with Julianne Moore’s graphic black and white Tom Ford column dress) predictably showed up en masse on stars like Anne Hathaway in beaded white Chanel, Amanda Seyfried in stunning white Givenchy and Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman, who were both clear standouts in statement-making black Alexander McQueen dresses.
And the mermaid tails, oh those mermaid tails. Thought they were retired? Think again. The ole pyramid hem is proving to be on a clear comeback, as worn by Amy Adams, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift and Jessica Alba.
As for the aforementioned boob-show, one flip through out Golden Globe red carpet gallery would show quite the bountiful selection. And really, is there much wrong with that?

Pavoni hits the big time: Mariah Carey dons the Canadian label to the annual Rockafeller Center Christmas tree lighting
Only a couple of truly glitzy gowns could upstage someone as famous as Santa Claus, but last night, during NBC’s Rockefeller Centre’s lighting of the Christmas tree, that’s precisely what happened. Mariah Carey quite literally sparkled quite in two different bedazzled Pavoni gowns, shining more light on the Canadian brand’s ever-growing popularity with celebrities.
Since its inception, Pavoni has slowly worked its way up the celebrity ranks. And what started as just dressing Canadian stars turned into dressing household names like Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood , Kylie Minogue and even Shakira.

Michelle Williams vs. Charlize Theron: It’s a headband battle on the Golden Globes red carpet!
So how about those headbands? Michelle Williams, her BFF Busy Philipps, and Charlize Theron were all wearing them last night, making the Golden Globes almost as headwear-focused as an episode of Gossip Girl. While we don’t deny that they’re cute—the perfect accessory for rescuing a bad hair day or adding a punch of quirky style—headbands still seem slightly out of place at top-caliber award shows. Theron looks a little too prom with her sparkly band, and Williams takes away from the impact of her full-length gown with such a playful piece in her hair. But what do you think? Tell us who looks best in a headband by voting below, and let us know in the comments if it’s a red carpet look you’re down with!

Celeb poll: Vote for your favourite Golden Globes look!
Colour was everywhere on last night’s Golden Globes red carpet. So much so, that we are seriously considering a mid-winter makeover. From the emerald green worn by Angelina Jolie, Elizabeth Moss and Mila Kunis to the shades of bubblegum on Claire Danes, Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, the spectrum was covered at every point.
This year, it also seemed that the ball gown was eschewed – with the exception of a few knockout odes from Catherine Zeta-Jones and Olivia Wilde – for the sleek and sexy cutout lines on Emma Stone, Anne Hathaway and January Jones.
Between all of these visual delights, who do you think did it the best? View the full looks after the jump!
