I’ve got curly hair and have a hard time controlling its frizz in the winter. What can I do to keep my curls looking defined and smooth instead of frizzy and unkempt?
The reason you may find curls even more difficult to control in the winter is because there’s reduced moisture in the air—moisture is the solution to bouncy curls, and without it your hair may look frizzier than you’re willing to tolerate. Also, take a look at your shampoo. If it isn’t sulphate-free, it should be! -
Afternoon beauty fix: Don’t fear the keratin treatment!
I’ve heard both good and bad news about keratin treatments recently—should I try keratin to help my dry, frizzy hair or should I avoid it?
First off, it was the addition of formaldehyde in a few specific keratin treatments that can be blamed for the bad press, not the keratin itself. To get a little scientific, keratin is a naturally occurring protein found in hair, nails, and skin. It’s also key in the composition of healthy hair: each strand of hair is composed of three layers—the surface, the cuticle, and the core—and surrounded by a whole bunch of proteins, including keratin, which look like shingles on a roof. Time-saving hair products mean more sleep – I’m in
Large hair should never resemble a triangle—flat on top, puffy on the bottom—but mine does. And while taking 40 minutes to straighten it is an option, I’d prefer the sleep. Lucky me: LaCoupe will be releasing a line of hair products this August that should take care of my triangular coif and give it that oomph it needs.
