13 Beauty Pros on the Products That Make Them the Most Nostalgic
Women in the beauty industry tell us about the products that send them back in time the most. Amanda Bell Pixi Beauty global colour ambassador “As a child in the ’70s, I used to watch old black-and-white films and flip through Vogue with my incredibly beautiful neighbour, a woman who bought clothes in Paris and […]

5 things to consider before donating your hair
Here’s what you need to prep for donating your hair » I’ve always had long hair. Besides a traumatic incident the summer before seventh grade when I brought in a photo of medium-length hair to the salon, and ended up with an unflattering above-the-shoulder cut just in time for the first day of school, I’ve long considered Rapunzel-like […]

Love braided hair but unable to DIY it? Get ready: Braid bars are coming to Toronto
Braided hairstyles of all complexities have reigned supreme on the runways and red carpets for what seems like forever. Childhood memories aside, the current iteration of braids started around Spring 2010 (thanks Alexander Wang and Oscar de la Renta, to name a few) and the style has continued to grow season after season. This ongoing trend has cued the arrival of braid bars—a special salon that has perfected the art of braiding—in New York and Los Angeles, and now they’re coming to Toronto.
Marc Anthony Salons in Toronto just announced that they will now offer a special braid menu to customers. The styles range from a basic French braid band to more complex plaits such as fishtails, waterfalls and a fully braided halo updo. Meaning, for those without the dexterity or patience to attempt DIY braiding, on-trend holiday party hair just got a whole lot easier. And affordable: Braid bar prices start at $20.

Afternoon beauty fix: Get in control of your curls and say goodbye to winter frizz!
I’ve got curly hair and have a hard time controlling its frizz in the winter. What can I do to keep my curls looking defined and smooth instead of frizzy and unkempt?
The reason you may find curls even more difficult to control in the winter is because there’s reduced moisture in the air—moisture is the solution to bouncy curls, and without it your hair may look frizzier than you’re willing to tolerate. Also, take a look at your shampoo. If it isn’t sulphate-free, it should be! -
Afternoon beauty fix: How to make “in between” hair look good while you’re growing it out
I’m growing my hair out from a short bob and my mid-length is shapeless and tough to style. What can I do in the meantime to make my hair look acceptable? When your hair is too short to conceal in a ponytail, and when shaping with scissors will only further deter your longer-length goal, your […]

It kind of feels like J.Lo and Marc Anthony are duking it out in their new promo videos for Kohl’s
In a new promo video for her first collection for American super-brand Kohl’s, Jennifer Lopez takes us behind the scenes in the making of her collection. She pensively points at models while reassuring us that she’s more than qualified to be the artistic lead. The Jennifer Lopez Collection includes sportswear, dresses, handbags, jewellery, shoes, and sleepwear. As if that isn’t Enough, there’s a home collection of bedding, towels, and luggage!
What really makes the collection interesting is its baggage—and by baggage we mean Marc Anthony. J.Lo’s almost-ex husband was set to release the collection with her, but since their split, the collections have been promoted separately. Awkward.

Afternoon beauty fix: Get California-girl beach hair sans travel
How can I get California-girl beach hair? Fret not, it’s totally possible. Just spritz Marc Anthony’s Dream Waves Beach Spray ($12, at Shopper’s Drug Mart and Pharmaprix) onto damp hair. It curls and texturizes your hair to make you look like you’ve spent the last month in Cuba, and hydrolyzed silk and provitamin B5 keep […]

SNP’s word of the day: Man-acle
Word: Man-acle
Definition: One who makes slaves of men; serial heart-stealer; divorce queen. Okay, I semi-made it up from the word for handcuffs, manacle. P.S. I definitely do not mean ball and chain; gross.

They said/We said: We (almost) shed tears for Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony while pondering the future of their line at Kohl’s
After seven years of marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced on Friday that they were getting a divorce. The split came as a bit of a surprise: Lopez, Anthony and their three-year-old twins seemed to be the definition of a happy and meant-to-be family. For celeb fashion enthusiasts though, the end of the marriage brought up another concern: What would happen to the couple’s upcoming joint line for Kohl’s? After all, it isn’t everyday that a celebrity power couple collaborates on fashion for the masses.
Well, those who were anxiously awaiting the chance to make the cross-border trek can breathe a sigh of relief. The line will still go on despite the couple’s personal issues. In fact, Lopez and Anthony reportedly signed separate contracts with the retailer back in November when the project was announced (perhaps the relationship was on the rocks back then). All speculation aside, this means that when the lines hit Kohl’s stores, guys can pick up menswear by Anthony and ladies can get their hands on womenswear by Lopez. We’re just hoping she backs off of the python.
