Now that S.S. Coachella exists, we have somewhere to wear Cruise collections! Get the scoop and see our 10 fantasy clothing picks
Check out our resort wear picks! »
Weezer’s Caribbean cruise sounded unreal and all, but the most recently announced concert-cruise blows Weezer’s out of the water (pun intended): Coachella organizers have just announced that they’ll be taking to international waters this December as S.S. Coachella, a 2,800-person capacity vessel packed full of indie favourites like Hot Chip, Girl Talk and Yeasayer. The ocean landscape is a far cry from the festival’s usual arid locale in Indio, California, and we have a feeling the heat exhaustion, up-to-the-knee mud splatters and disgusting port-a-potties won’t be missed too much (though they may be replaced by seasickness for some).

The culture club: Top 6 summer beats
As Toronto’s current heatwave indicates, summer is now in full effect. We were jazzed (pun intended) to share a summer soundtrack with you, so we sought out the recommendations of our music stylist and fellow Culturite, Dan Buckman founder of Bellosound (bellosound.com). We love his company motto, “love what you hear.” Music is so much a part of our everyday lives, so why not surround yourself with sounds that enlighten, enrich and enhance? Here Dan’s six picks for the best summertime beats. You can download the playlist from the iTunes store for $7.

Fashion news: LiLo is a no-show at Ungaro, Gareth Pugh won’t be taking over McQueen, Payless beauty, and more
Lindsay Lohan was a no-show this morning at the Ungaro show in Paris. The details are still hazy but we’re gulping down the juicy gossip: WWD has reported that Lilo does still hold the title of artistic director, while chairman Asim Abdullah reported backstage that she was not involved in the Fall 2010 collection. To be continued. [Telegraph]
We don’t discuss the federal budget too much here on FASHION Diaries. In fact, this is probably a first: The 2010 budget, announced Friday by finance minister Jim Flaherty, includes the elimination of import duties—that had sometimes been up to 14 per cent—on raw materials used to manufacture apparel. Rumours of Gareth Pugh taking on the role of Creative Director at Alexander McQueen can be put to rest. A statement from the designer’s PR said this morning, “Further to speculative reports, Gareth Pugh is not in discussions with Gucci Group about a creative director role at Alexander McQueen.” [Vogue UK]

Hot Disc: YACHT
The DFA (dfarecords.com) machine—cranking out new-new-wave hits that occasionally leak from the cool kids to the club kids—breaks down a little when it comes to YACHT (www.myspace.com/yacht). Newly a twosome, with the formerly solo Jona Bechtolt enlisting Portland artist and musician Claire L. Evans to sing along, the LP See Mystery Lights is their debut on James Murphy’s indie-electronic label. (They were signed last year, after recording “Summer Song” as an ode to the LCD Soundsystem frontman and DFA Records ringmaster.)

The Juan MacLean: The Future Will Come
Happy belated Easter: LCD Soundsystem, the “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down,” piano-tronic crew pronounced dead last year, is risen. No, James Murphy isn’t back on the synthesizer; instead, he’s producing his own reincarnation in the form of The Juan MacLean (myspace.com/thejuanmaclean).
