In living colour
Photography by Natasha V Fall 2009 runways were awash with colour-blocked eyes and Duran Duran hair, rocketing us Marty McFly–style back to the future, circa 1985. Why? Because everything ’80s is new again. Lipstick is bright, bold and iridescent. Fragrance is intoxicatingly opulent, steeped in history. And counterculture strolls down memory lane, redefining drugstore cool.

Matt Tyrnauer (director of Valentino: The Last Emperor) describes his movie as a “geriactric Brokeback Mountain” with dog toothbrushes and early morning bronzing rituals. [The Cut] What do you think of these high-fashion Mickey Mouse ears (adorned by House of Holland, Giles, et. al.)? We love the spiked pair, even though they might look […]

Edmonton: Recession-proof pink
I am and always have been a sheer lipgloss girl but lately, I feel like wearing lipstick. Pink lipstick to be exact. I have yet to figure out where this sudden urge to paint my lips with brightly-hued colours originated from, but I am working on a few theories:

Beauty markers
Back in the olden days, one of my favourite times of year was shopping for school supplies. Nothing could quite top that new-notebook smell. Making faces
By Amanda Losier
Faces Cosmetics (faces-cosmetics.com) has always held a special place in my make-up-loving heart, so I was ecstatic to attend a preview of their new products. Although the Canadian company was established in 1974, lately their shops seem to be scarce. If you haven’t seen them at your local mall, it could be because they’re busy setting up shop around the world (next up: India and Ecuador).

Secretary chic
By Jennifer Campbell
Around here, I am sometimes known, style wise, as the sexy secretary. I assume this is because of my predilection for pencil skirts as opposed to my filing skills, which are nil. Happily, the fall runways (to say nothing of Mad Men) were full of strict, administratively-inspired outfits.

Shu-in for great makeup
A while ago, I had the opportunity to meet Jason Hoffman, a principal makeup artist for Shu Uemura, who showed me the 25th Boutique Birthday collection, which commemorates the silver anniversary of the first Shu Uemura store in Tokyo.
