Trash meets class in Jeremy Scott’s surprisingly elegant Moschino Fall 2014 ad campaign
See the Moschino Fall 2014 ad campaign here »
Much has been said about Jeremy Scott’s wild Moschino debut collection, which hit the runway in a blaze of junk food glory earlier this year as part of Fall 2014 fashion week in Milan. Amongst the adjectives used to describe the McDonalds-inspired collection, “trashy,” “over-the-top” and maybe even “delicious” come to mind, but “elegant”? Probably not.
In the just-released ad campaign for the collection, Scott flips that right on its head, with a series of elegant photos starring Linda Evangelista, Stella Tennant, Saskia de Brauw, Carolyn Murphy, Karen Elson and Raquel Zimmerman as modern-day society swans in the trashy wares. Photographed by Steven Meisel and styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, the black and white photos recall mid-nineties Peter Lindbergh while keeping it classy with boucle and Guido Paulo updos.

Prada and Miu Miu share dark and surreal Fall 2013 ad campaigns
See Prada and Miu Miu’s Fall 2013 ad campaigns »
While Burberry was all about romance for Fall 2013, Miuccia Prada’s campaigns for both Prada and Miu Miu veered towards the dark and surreal.
Shot by photographer Steven Meisel under the hair-raising light of a cold and ominous casting studio, Prada’s Fall 2013 campaign serves as the perfect setting to showcase the film noir glamour of the fall collection. The campaign’s short film stars 9 models, who play the roles of hopeful actresses, preparing for auditions and reciting lines. The dark and desolate theme mirrored that of Prada’s Fall 2013 fashion week show in which models walked down a shadow-clad runway. Miuccia Prada, the designer behind the label, was quoted post-show by style.com saying “through cloth, you can really make movies,” reinforcing the theme of the campaign. The short film stands out our radar for both it’s seriously dramatic tone and because of an appearance by 19-year-old model Malaika Firth, the first black model cast by the brand in almost two decades. Firth holds her own alongside top models Christy Turlington and Freja Beha which is a feat to say the least. The 9 model-strong cast is reminiscent of the label’s much lighter Spring 2013 advertising campaign, also shot by Meisel, in which 10 models embodied the delicate, frilly characteristics of flowers featured on garments in the Spring 2013 collection.

Prada Spring 2013 Ad Campaign: Suddenly those shoes ain’t looking so bad…
See Prada’s Spring 2013 campaign »
It’s been a couple of months since we first feasted on Prada’s Spring 2013 collection, but any weariness of those toe sock/thong shoes has all been washed away with the just-released spring campaign.
Simply put, Prada’s Spring 2013 collection was a whole lotta Japan-meets-sixties look, and it seems that streamlined styling was the name of the game for the Steven Meisel-shot advertising images. The modeling A-list amongst its stars include Raquel Zimmerman, Saskia de Brauw, Eva Herzigova, Sasha Pivovarova, who all pose against stark grey backgrounds in furry coats, hot pants, daisy sunglasses and more. The flatform heels with the toe socks make a re-appearance but have been styled in a way that we know when Fall 2013 street style photos come pouring in, these shoes have the potential to shot day after day.

Who can get Hilary Rhoda, Caroline Trentini, Jessica Stam, Karen Elson, Sung Hee, Daphne Groeneveld, and Candice Swanepoel modeling in a room together? Miuccia Prada can.
In the Miu Miu Resort 2013 campaign and look book, the model A-team took to a brocade curtained room that resembles a grandmother’s house and, you know, they modeled.

They said/We said: Arty takes on fashion pop up in several November issues
This month it seems like fashion magazines are turning more and more towards art for inspiration, creating editorials that blur the lines between the two. For Garage magazine photographer Fulvio Bonavia and stylist Giovanna Battaglia, this resulted in creating replicas of dresses from designers Fall 2011 collections—using food. Did you ever think you would see a McQueen dress made entirely of lettuce or a Louis Vuitton dress made of walnuts? Neither did we.
The foodatorial comes just a week after W magazine revealed two covers for their Art and Fashion issue: one, by artist Ai Wei Wei, depicts a model being tackled to the ground and the other, by artist Francesco Vezzoli, features Nicki Minaj as a stately lady complete with grey hair and pearls. Inside the issue are several ad parodies photographed by Steven Meisel. While designers gaining inspiration from art is nothing new, the covers and editorials born out of a fine art muse have been a breath of fresh air.
