Legendary Couturier and Audrey Hepburn Collaborator Hubert de Givenchy Dies at 91
Whether you’re an avid fashion follower, just a casual observer, or someone whose brush with fashion rarely extends beyond the one time you get dressed each morning, chances are you’ve seen at least one outfit created by French designer Hubert de Givenchy—the black sheath dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The designer, […]

The Tiffany Diamond Is on a Visit to Canada
You know the one—huge, canary yellow, cushion-shaped, just a carat and a half shy of 130—The Tiffany Diamond takes a rare leave of absence from Tiffany & Co.’s Fifth Avenue flagship to visit the Vancouver store on Burrard Street, its very first trip to Canada. To celebrate the diamond’s arrival, Tiffany & Co. hosted a […]

14 of Fashion’s Top Twosomes in Honour of National Best Friends Day
Their friendship bracelets are probably gold plate instead of hemp, and their clothing swaps likely involve pieces of couture instead of ratty walk-of-shame tees, but at their core, we think fashion BFFs are a lot like us. After all, it’s no coincidence that fashionable friends seem to flock together—good style begets good style, right? Whether […]

Charting the History of the Yellow Dress, from the Red Carpet to the Spring 2017 Runway
Designers must have been in good spirits because they illuminated Spring 2017 runways with cheerful yellow fashions. As they say, go on get happy. Summer is finally on the horizon and street style types are adding what Pantone dubbed “primrose yellow” into their ensembles. What’s in a shade, you ask? It’s a not-so-subtle reminder to look, and even dress, […]

The Style Tips From Breakfast at Tiffany’s You’ve Ignored, But Shouldn’t
Posters of Holly Golightly hang on our walls. Memes of her and Fred are peppered throughout our Insta-feeds, and some of us have even an orange cat named “Cat.” So, why do we share this great admiration for “that daring, darling Holly Golightly,” (as my particular movie poster puts it)? She’s basically all of us. […]

Micro bangs: 12 retro celebrity looks that will inspire your next cut
See which celebs rock blunt micro bangs » Bluntly cut micro bangs have cycled in and out of trend for decades, yet they’re admittedly difficult to pull off. While visions of pin-up girls and Beyonce’s newly chopped fringe come to mind, poorly cut micro bangs can resemble the “pudding basin” fringe of late medieval period. […]

History’s Top 5 parties: From Masquerade Balls to Surrealist Dinners, They’re Almost too Good to Be True!
As the buzz surrounding tonight’s Met Gala reaches a fever pitch, many websites have done a good job of reflecting on the event’s storied past—the dresses, the glamour, the history-making moments! And while dishing on the red carpet has become a full on spectator sport, what happens beyond the velvet rope is something many of us plebes will really never experience. In the context of high society’s glittering history, the Met Gala is just one of many cool parties the crème de le crème mingle at. In 2011, Assouline published a retrospective on the greatest balls of the last century (the book has been on my must-own list since) and here we count down five that have made us green with past life regression envy.

Sole Mates: From metallic brogues to velvet slip-ons, we’re dazzled by fall’s friendliest footwear
See the flat trend on the runway »
When red carpet renegade Kristen Stewart wore a pair of Converse Chuck Taylors with her Yigal Azrouël dress at the MTV Movie Awards in 2009 (or the sneakers she wore on any number of subsequent red carpet walks), she was essentially flipping fashion the bird. In this industry, comfort has historically been a four-letter word: f-l-a-t.
This season, there’s a more sophisticated way to save your soles.
After years of sending models teetering down runways in sky-high strappy sandals and stilettos, designers have become the new flat-vocates, endorsing everything from clunky lug soles and creepers to trim, slim loafers and sleek skimmers especially suited to holiday dressing.
Like so many other recent trends that can be traced back to Lanvin, it’s arguable that the house’s ubiquitous stretchy, girlish ballerina flat of 2002 was fashion’s gateway drug to comfort. Once you go flat, you never go back. This season, Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz sent winter floral party dresses down the runway but grounded their feminine whimsy with more mannish oxfords in leather, velvet and glitter-encrusted versions. This new flat provides a balance to the proportions of fall’s revival of ’50s volume, from the new New Look of full dirndl skirts at Rochas to the boxy topcoats at Céline.

Salvatore Ferragamo revamps its Vancouver boutique just in time for the release of the brand’s re-imagined Old Hollywood capsule collection
View some of the shoe designs and the renovated store! »
Vancouverites might have to do a quick double-take as they pass by the Salvatore Ferragamo storefront on Robson Street: gone is the black and white façade it’s had for years, and in its place are sleek limestone, ribbons of modern champagne-toned metal and Italian-made Mondrian walnut accents.
In addition to the revamped décor, the legendary Italian label is also offering an opportunity to grab re-imagined versions of some of their most iconic shoe styles. Included in the exclusive Creations line are three Marilyn Monroe styles (“Honey,” “Red” and “Beauty”) that were designed for the blonde bombshell herself, the scalloped gold “Leslie” flat designed for gamine Audrey Hepburn, the famous “Rainbow” platform that was created for Judy Garland and Carmen Miranda’s aurulent mirrored “Miranda” heels.

A countdown of some of the most expensive celebrity auction items ever to go under the hammer
Celebrity jewels and clothing have become quite the draw at auctions, with dresses and jewels that once belonged to the rich and famous easily fetching millions. Just last week, two hats worn by Kate Middleton hit the auction block, raising more than $11,000 for charity. Daphne Guinness also auctioned off some of her prized fashion pieces in the name of charity, as did Elizabeth Taylor, whose collection of clothing and jewels garnered a record breaking $157 million. The Taylor auction also attracted several celebrity bids—Kim Kardashian purchased three of Liz’s Lorraine Schwartz diamond and jade bangles for $64,000, and Coco Rocha surprised herself when she walked away with Taylor’s yellow and pink Givenchy jumpsuit that she wore to the Met gala this year. We’ve rounded up 10 celebrity fashion picks that fetched a pretty penny at auction, and we think the piece that went for the biggest bank might surprise you.
