As Choupette Lagerfeld celebrates a milestone first birthday, we take a look back at what she’s been up to lately
It’s hard to believe Choupette Lagerfeld has only been gracing us with her “great beauty” for a mere year now. From her almost 16,000 follower count on Twitter to her multiple appearances in between glossy covers, the adorable furball has undoubtedly achieved more in a year than any other feline (and some humans) do in their lives.
She celebrated the milestone with dad Karl Lagerfeld yesterday, who tweeted a pic of the kitten with a cat-style cake (i.e. five shrimp arranged in a cartwheel configuration). So what exactly has the fashion world’s most illustrious kitty squeezed into her first year of life?

Quotable: This size zero pop star misses being “chunkier”
If this is a bid for sympathy, we’re not sure it’s going to work with most women: Rihanna has been sounding off about her size zero body as of late, saying she misses being “chunkier.” The Bajan bombshell lamented her former bodacious behind to US Weekly a few weeks ago, then complained to Harper’s Bazaar in her August cover story about her shrunken butt yet again.
“I don’t know if there’s something going on with my body right now, but I’m eating everything in life! I miss my ass. It just went away! I need a butt. I have an idea of one, but it’s not living up to its full potential right now.”

Influential fashion photographer Paolo Roversi on nudity, the value of a good stylist and why logic has no place in creativity
By Sven Schumann
Staunch fans of fashion photography view Paolo Roversi as a one-man revolution. One of the early adopters of the Polaroid, the Italian-born, Paris-based photographer saw the potential in the camera in the ’70s, years before many of his contemporaries did. Using the Polaroid’s filter and frame to accentuate fashion’s most immediate and delicate moments, Roversi’s style of shooting spawned a legion of admirers, including Carine Roitfeld and the late Herb Ritts. After working under Harper’s Bazaar lensman Laurence Sackman during his salad days, Roversi developed his own POV and began to shoot solo for Elle and Dépêche Mode. His work created such a domino effect in fashion photography that his style became the new industry standard in the ’80s and ’90s. Scrolling through paoloroversi.com offers a taste of his influential commercial campaigns for the houses of Giorgio Armani and Romeo Gigli, as well as his contributions to Paris, British and Italian editions of Vogue. Hot on the heels of launching his most recent book of photographs, Paolo Roversi (Thames & Hudson), the 64-year-old visionary sat down at the Camera Work Gallery in Berlin and spoke to FASHION about his iconic visions—past and present.

Quotable: Guess who thinks she’s every woman? (Hint: it’s not Chaka Khan)
In today’s edition of “what planet does Victoria Beckham live on?” the designer dishes to Harper’s Bazaar that her size 6 frame (which translates into an American size 2) represents the average woman. It gets better: Beckham’s design process includes using her own body as a stand-in for a dressform, in order to see how her creations will look on “anyone who isn’t a model.”

They said/We said: Remembering the life and work of Lillian Bassman
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of legendary fashion photographer Lillian Bassman who succumbed to natural causes yesterday at the age of 94.
Bassman got her start as a photographer for Harper’s Bazaar, working there from the late ‘40s until the mid-‘60s. Her goal was always “to present women in the way I felt about them… feminine, serene, and elegant.”

We explore the new Diana Vreeland art book with writer and would-be granddaughter Lisa Immordino Vreeland
Beloved for her wildly original style and joie de vivre, Diana Vreeland is right up there with fashion’s most legendary. The famed editrix’s career, spanning 50 years—from her first role in the fashion department at Harper’s Bazaar in 1936, to becoming editor in chief of Vogue in 1962, and moving on to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in 1970, after Vogue fired her for being too extravagant—mirrors some of the most important moments in pop culture and fashion; if it happened, she was there. Vreeland’s stamp is indelible indeed. With the release of Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel ($62, at Teatro Verde, 100 Yorkville Ave., 416-966-2227, teatroverde.com), her vision has once again come alive, as curated by the wife of her grandson-turned-most-ardent-admirer, Lisa Immordino Vreeland. Last month, Immordino Vreeland shared some of her favourite spreads, as well as insights about her would-be grandmother (the two never met) and now we share them with you!
