Because summer is the ultimate time for tunage, we’ve picked out a few of our favourite ladies to listen to while you’re busy sitting on the dock of the bay.

After a crazy week of cover shoots, our seasonal trend presentation and some hot, hot weather, everyone here at FASHION is ready to unwind. This weekend we’re updating our iPods for summer road trips, bidding adieu to our Girls, keeping an eye out for an Avril-style wardrobe malfunction at the Chum City Building and paying homage to our dads.

Metric is back. We know this because we see the faintly bearded, forever charming ol’ boys of the band downing beer at an Ossington garage party one night, and recovering on the Drake patio the next aft.

Also—okay, fine, more importantly—they have a new album, Fantasies (Last Gang Records). Their fourth studio recording, it’s as close to the stadium sound as they’ll ever make: plastic, bombastic, all blown-out guitars and synth gloss.

Shout Out Out Out Out (is that four Outs? Whew) has a new album, Reintegration Time (Normals Welcome Records, March 3), though in music-blogging time it’s already in the dustbin. Still, we dig. And when it comes to these Canuck party-punkers, here’s the thing: no one cares when the record drops, only when the show goes down. That’s cause the Shout Outs are (as one SXSW blogger said after their whirl through Austin last week) “a live band’s live band.” Now back in our home and native land, they’re playing to the cool kids from left to right coast. Looking into my fashion crystal ball, I predict the onesie, the ultimate playsuit, is on the verge of a colossal comeback. Witness the runways of BCBG, D&G and Lacoste. If your mind instantly reverts to the bubble-brained Chrissy Snow of Three’s Company, you’re on the right track.

Even though most of us still have the winter blues, there was some fun to be had in Hogtown of late. Britain’s latest sensation, Crystal Castles, who actually hail from Toronto, popped by their hometown for a rockin’ set at Wrong Bar on West Queen West one lovely, chilly evening. Supporting her fellow label mates: Emily Haines of Metric.
