I like to give my nails a break from polish every so often, but they look so dull. How can I make them look their best?
While we can all be slaves to the polish bottle, bare nails can be quite modern and, right now, are remarkably on-trend. If your nails have taken a bit of battering after multiple polish changes with minimal breaks in between, using a nail buffer, such as Quo’s Ergo Buffer ($6, at Shoppers Drug Mart), can actually help stimulate circulation to your nail beds. Buffing encourages nails to grow while smoothing out the nail surface, thus making them look and feel healthier. Use the black nail file side of the Ergo Buffer to shape nails, moving on to the blue side to buff nails lightly, and finally use the purple interior side of the buffing tool to bring nails to a smooth, glossy shine. -

What can I use to battle fine lines and wrinkles in my undereye area? They seem to be getting a little bit deeper each year.
A fair question that many people start to ponder as time goes on! It’s important to understand that fine lines can appear due to dehydration, which can be addressed by adding moisture back into the eye area with an eye cream. However, wrinkles and fine lines brought on by aging are bit of a different beast! Consider enlisting a retinoid-based product, such as Philosophy Miracle Worker Retinoid Eye Repair Cream ($65, sephora.com), to help out. Retinoid creams contain vitamin A derivatives that work to smooth fine lines/wrinkles and boost collagen while evening out discoloration and smoothness and this particular one also contains peptides to tackle undereye bags and darkness. Tip: Retinoid creams can make skin particularly sensitive to sun exposure, so don’t forget your SPF and sunglasses when out and about!

Just announced! Rihanna will perform at this year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show
As if the prospect of watching supermodels like Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio model high-fashion lingerie wasn’t enough to get us to tune in to the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, it was just announced that Rihanna is going to be involved.
Today the singer revealed the news on her Facebook page that she will be performing at the annual event, which will be televised on December 4. The spectacle has seen past performances from the likes of Justin Timberlake and the Spice Girls, as well as Rihanna’s friends Kanye West and Jay-Z. Rihanna—who has been quite busy lately, from closing the Paralympics to working on her seventh (!!) album—will sing two songs at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, including her new single “Diamonds.” She will also be joined by two other acts, one of which is some guy named Justin Bieber. No big deal.

As the bag itself might suggest, Eliza is a Hepburn type who seems to be stylishly pulled together at all times. She’s got a penchant for cat-eyes, and, well, we’ve got a penchant for her, so what better way to show our love than to snoop her things!

What’s in your bag, Sarah Nicole Prickett?
Well, we’ve officially reached the end of our editor rope. Since launching What’s in your bag? last summer, we’ve gone through the personal belongings of each and every (willing) FASHION editor. And since we love this feature so, rather than call it quits, we’ve decided to shift the focus to some of our favourite industry friends. In the coming months, we’ll be raiding the bags belonging to stylish designers, photographers, models, writers, and so on. Dying to go inside the bag of a certain fashionite? Tweet or Facebook us your suggestion!
But in the meantime, let’s get back to business. For the first in our “non FASHION eds” feature, who better to turn it over to than to our regular contributor, Sarah Nicole Prickett. As known for her quips (both long and short form) as she is for her mess of a blond bob, she’s surely one of our favourites. She also has excellent taste. And she asked.

Afternoon beauty fix: The secret to moisturizing sans staining
Natural oils are great for moisturizing, but they’ve ruined a few of my silk blouses. How can I get the moisture without staining? We recommend looking for a product that contains natural ingredients, including water, to aid in absorption. Jojoba oil has a similar consistency to wax, and when it’s applied, it sends a signal […]

Our look back at 100 years of Nivea Creme
With all the high-tech and luxury skincare breakthroughs over the last decade, it’s surprising (and refreshing) that Nivea’s modest all-purpose cream—the first batch of which was cooked up in Hamburg more than a century ago—is still going strong, boasting the same simple recipe. “It’s passed the test of time,” says Dr. Volker Kallmayer, product development specialist for Beiersdorf, Nivea’s parent company. “From a scientist’s point of view, my personal nightmare is that one day my boss asks me to improve it,” he laughs, explaining that brand loyalists can sniff out the tiniest change in the formula. “They feel it’s not our product, but their product… they don’t want us to mess with it.”
