One of a Kind Christmas Show: Our top 8 picks of 2012
By Asymina Kantorowicz
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The annual One of a Kind Christmas Show started up again yesterday and for the next 10 days you can indulge in Christmas shopping with handmade crafts for everyone on your list. The show is being held at the Direct Energy Centre, located at Exhibition Place in Toronto, and features over 800 booths. We got a sneak peek of all the goodies beforehand and were mesmerized by the variety of artistic pieces. Fashion and jewellery designers brought in their latest creations to the show leaving us stunned with the detail and creativity. Gourmet food options like jam and delectable spreads were also available for sampling and purchase. If you’re in the mood to spruce up your home, the Christmas show also featured home décor pieces that you won’t find anywhere else. Whether you’re looking for Christmas gifts or simply wanting to treat yourself, there is no doubt that this show has something for everyone.

Put on your mittens and make the trek out to your favourite shops and markets, Canadian gals—you’ll save a bundle on gift buying, so you can buy yourself an early holiday treat.

Vancouver: One of a Kind, West Coast style
In a world where mass-produced goods proliferate, it is often hard to find truly unique items made the artisanal way–by hand. Except for one weekend of the year, that is. The One of a Kind Show (October 8 to 11, Vancouver Convention Centre, oneofakindvancouver.com) has recently announced that they will once again bring one Canada’s most extraordinary shopping events to Vancouver.

Toronto: One of a Kind round-up
Despite living in a fast-paced city, the concept of craftsmanship isn’t something that exists only at the pioneer village. To wear and produce handmade goods in a mass-produced world is a bold statement, which is why the D.I.Y. aesthetic is often referenced by the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Marc Jacobs. Handicrafts have never been trendier and highlights from my latest visit to Toronto’s One of a Kind Show (oneofakindshow.com) provide an up-to-date snapshot of the city’s arts and crafts scene.
