What’s in your bag, Katie Boland?
See what’s inside Katie Boland’s bag »
Katie Boland ranks high on our list of young Canadians worth keeping an eye on. In the past few years the Toronto-based actress had made waves with notable roles including one alongside Kat Dennings in the 2010 flick Daydream Nation and in her own web series Long Story, Short (which she wrote and co-produced, by the way). The striking brunette, who has much to be excited about with a role on the new CW series Reign, stopped by our offices to give us an uncensored look at what she carries in her everyday bag. A self-professed iPhone addict, who admits she can’t live without eyeliner and is constantly on the hunt for the perfect red lipstick, is refreshingly down to earth and surprisingly low-maintenance (lipstick, Visa and phone is all that she brings with her to red carpet events). We got up close and personal with Boland’s must-have items as she let us peruse through her purse.

In just under a year, Edmonton-born model Grace Mahary has become a star on the international fashion scene. launching her international career as an exclusive on the Givenchy Fall 2012 runway, she then landed big for the Spring 2013 season, walking runways at Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Prada and for Hedi Slimane’s first collection at Saint Laurent. For this photo shoot from our February 2013 issue, we cast the model as an It girl in transit alongside fellow model Angela Page, checked in for a night at Toronto’s brand new Four Seasons Hotel with a suitcase full of homegrown designer pieces. From Pink Tartan’s minty fresh pant suit (pictured above) to Vawk’s strict black leather dress, Grace Mahary’s star shines bright in the best of Canadian fashion for the season.

Shop watch: Ukamaku, online purveyor of Canadian fashion designs
Designer labels like Prada, Ralph Lauren and Dolce & Gabbana roll easily off the tongues of the average Canadian fashion enthusiast but less so names like Breeyn McCarney, Zoran Dobric, Heidi Ackerman and Nella Bella. Toronto-based online store and community Ukamaku (ukamaku.com) hopes to change that.

Toronto Fashion Week: Jessica Jensen and Alexander Berardi make beautiful bags together
Collaborations are a dime a dozen these days, but in New York designer Alexander Berardi, Toronto handbag designer Jessica Jensen seems to have met her fashion soul mate. The pair met a year ago and “fell in love with each other’s product”–business speak to be sure, but respect is genuine and the results are lovely. Fabrics from Berardi’s “Breathless”-inspired, Hamptons-ready spring collection are threaded through Jensen’s woven leathers, tied in floppy bows around the handle of a box satchel or formed into rosettes and attached to a coin purse.

Handbag designer Jessica Jensen held her Spring 2010 preview on Friday night at the Thrush Holmes Empire gallery on Toronto’s Queen St. West. Jensen displayed the collection alongside works by her artist husband, Joshua Jensen-Nagle and both explored the same theme: the calm after the storm.
Jensen’s collection of simply-shaped totes, clutches and satchels was crafted from basket-woven leather and wave-like panels in soft greys, seafoam, purples, citrus green and blush.
