See the Taste of Toronto 2014 pics »
If you’ve spent so much as a day in Toronto, you’d know that it’s a foodie city. With such a diverse population of sophisticated palates to please, the city’s downtown core has become a proverbial playground of top-tier restaurants for those looking to move beyond poutine. This weekend, the playground becomes real with the first-ever Taste of Toronto, a festival featuring the city’s best chefs, artisans and restaurateurs serving up miniatures in marketplace style. Buzzy local favourites like Splendido, The Harbord Room, Rose and Sons and Guu are featured alongside stalls of locally-made organic cheese, fancy hot sauces and the like. Meanwhile, Thursday’s opening night festivities brought stars like Momofuku’s David Chang, Mark McEwan and Roger Mooking to town for the action.

Dan Levy brings D.L. Eyewear to Toronto for a mid-summer party
See the D.L. Eyewear party pics »
For those in pursuit of statement frames without the statement price tag, Canadian television personality Dan Levy has the answer(s) to your optical woes. His new label, D.L Eyewear came home for a trunk show and party at west end boutique Jonathan + Olivia last Thursday, where party-goers including Lainey Gossip’s Elaine Lui, MTV Canada’s Sharlene Chiu and the designer’s own funny-guy dad Eugene Levy sipped drinks as they tried on the event’s debut design, Whitehall, which is priced at just $95.
The collection reflects Levy’s own optical sensibilities with unisex thick-framed options in a variety of shades including matte black and deep amber tortoise. And, with such a trigger happy price point, the poster boy for thick frames is making good on sharing his statement accessory with us all.

Dîner en Blanc hits Edmonton! 25 all-white photos that prove a little rain never hurt anyone
See the photos from Dîner en Blanc in Edmonton »
We may have arrived a little late to the party, but we certainly had a fashionable debut. For the first time ever, the secret, all-white mystery picnic, Dîner en Blanc, landed in Edmonton. Made famous by the city of Paris 25 years ago (and now taking place in cities all over the world), the rain-or-shine event forged on honorably last night through what my waterlogged white dress can only inflate to a mid-summer deluge.
If it sounds like I’m complaining, I am (or was). After all, we had to go shopping for a head-to-toe white outfit, bring our own white tables and chairs, plateware, stemware, napkins and flatware. The food we packed in our white picnic baskets had to be gourmet. We had to leave work early! In the thunder and rain!
Sometimes, if you’re willing to put in a little bit of effort, you get something extraordinary. Equipped with all of the above, upwards of 1,200 people descended on Louise McKinney Park (the secret location is only revealed at the very last minute) and it was some kind of magical.

Underground Pizza Party: 20 street style snaps of hot babes (and Macauley Culkin!) eating pizza during NXNE
Underground Pizza Party pics »
If you had told me back in the early ‘90s that, one day, I’d be at a pizza party hosted by Macauley Culkin, I would have never believed you. And then, obviously, I’d have done this. Well, this very far-flung fantasy came true last Friday when the actor-turned-singer hit Toronto to perform as part of NXNE 2014 with his band Pizza Underground. Just as the name implies, the band exclusively covers The Velvet Underground but replaces lyrics with pizza-related references (“Stephanie Says” is now “Papa John Says,” for example). So, there we were on a sunny Friday afternoon, eating pizza while being serenaded by Culkin and his band, all the while scoping for outfits on the appropriately dressed guests. Local pizza-enthusiast Natalie Petozzi (she just launched a pretty epic pizza blog) went so far as to wear a pizza sash while snacking on the deep-dish delight. Safe to say, it was a pretty epic way to start off the weekend.
