It can be more than difficult to find the motivation to get to the gym and keep up with your New Year’s resolutions. But it’s time to make this the year you follow through. To help, we’re making this year’s journey more stylish with 13 picks that may actually inspire you to get dressed for the gym. No need to sacrifice your fashion sense; these picks are sure to provide you with both function and sophistication.

First tip? Brighten up. And we love strong prints, vibrant colours, and sporty accessories for doing just that. From technicolour shorts to ombre running shoes, brands such as American Apparel, Nike, Lululemon, and adidas are finding ways to spice up our stylish workout clothes.

After 170 years of being located strictly in Quebec, Simons is ready to make a move west. In October the department store will open its doors in Alberta at the West Edmonton Mall.

Amongst the roller coasters and water parks in the giant mall, Simons will occupy 95,000 square feet (that’s a lot of feet!) and will sell international brands like Missoni and Balmain as well as its well-loved in-house brand.

Kanye West and Liv Tyler battled it out for who wore the Givenchy Rottweiler tee better and Hanneli Mustaparta repped crazy cat ladies everywhere in her cropped Opening Ceremony cat knit. Since then, the literal animal print has taken over streets.

Animals also took over New York Fashion Week and if it taught us anything, it’s that any animal goes. Proenza Schouler handed out ballcaps with embroidered cats at their spring 2013 collection’s after-party (how can we get one?!) and Marc Jacobs took the one and only Mickey Mouse and put him on a cropped sweater. Thanks to some stylish ladies, the usually-worn-by-the-boys headgear is no longer relegated to bad hair days: the embellished baseball cap is making a comeback.  Style stars like Gwen Stefani and Rihanna have been spotted about town donning some covet-worthy caps—Stefani paired a bright red cap with her gauzy beach ensemble, and Rihanna got the blogsphere abuzz when she donned a spiked Peace, Love and Understanding cap complete with tartan tail. From cut-outs to bright colours, we’ve noticed a few celebs trying fall’s leather trend early, and we approve of the many ways its being re-imagined. Eva Longoria wowed us when she donned a laser cut Marchesa dress at the premier of her latest flick earlier this summer, and Emma Stone earned some serious style cred in the red leather Monique Lhuillier number she wore on the Tonight Show. Both of the stars balanced their leather looks with ladylike accessories—Eva paired hers with black patent pumps, and Emma completed her ensemble with a matching pair of Christian Louboutin heels and red lips. To avoid the biker chick look, we suggest you take note of Longoria and Stone’s longer hemlines, and stick to softer, feminine silhouettes.

While the rumour of H&M opening a high-end chain of stores has been circulating for less than a week, it feels like we’ve been waiting forever for the Swedish retailer to confirm or deny it. And today there’s finally been some progress: H&M’s CEO, Karl-Johan Persson, announced that they are indeed launching a completely new chain of stores in 2013.

What winter blues? Visions of spring just got a little bit more vibrant with the announcement of the Bay presenting Mary Katrantzou for Topshop this March at their Yorkdale Mall location!

Dare we dream to get our paws on the designer’s signature porcelain bowl-inspired skirts? You bet! The 10-piece spring capsule collection will be reminiscent of the surreal style we saw for fall, while keeping true to the Topshop girl’s aesthetic.  And with prices ranging from $120–630, a Jason Wu for Target–paced shelf clearer is certainly likely.

The much-anticipated launch of Target in Canada has been further finalized! Today, the retail giant announced the locations of the first 24 stores to come north. Scattered throughout Ontario, the list includes four much-needed locations in Toronto and seven across the GTA—all locations have tentative plans to open in March and April 2013.
