Toronto notes: Evan Biddell kicks off fashion week(s) festivities
Photography by Jenna Marie Wakani Evan Biddell kicked off two weeks of fashion shows and events last night with a presentation of his Spring 2011 “Kingdom” collection. Fashion faithfuls trekked to the hinterlands (aka Wilson and Keele) to watch Biddell’s fashion show which was held in an eerie factory stuffed with mannequins. The collection was heavy on drama with armour-inspired looks but there were some very wearable, more commercial pieces alongside his usual works of fashion art.
Look for our continued coverage of fashion week–both on and off the official runway–including Philip Sparks’s highly anticipated first womenswear show tomorrow.

Paris notes: Colour-blocked cheongsams and a zebra-striped Kristen McMenamy at Louis Vuitton
Photography by Chris Moore/Courtesy of Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs took the season’s trend for Asian-inspired pieces and ran with it at Louis Vuitton. There were colour-blocked cheongsams, sequined obi sashes on skinny lurex knits, a Panda face tunic in sequins, pyjama pantsuits, lantern fringe and fan-shaped beading. Kristen McMenamy ended the show topless with painted-on zebra stripes and a pair of tuxedo trousers. I dare you to try that one at home.

Paris notes: Elegant decay at Chanel and Sarah Burton’s runway debut for Alexander McQueen [gallery]
“You can see who has the real power in Paris,” one retailer remarked as we took our seats along with nearly 3,000 others in the Grand Palais for Chanel’s Spring 2011 show. Where other designers have absurdly restrictive guest lists, Chanel has always opened its arms to clients, buyers and press. Although the inclusiveness comes […]

Paris street style: Lemoned!
There’s nothing like a jolt of colour to brighten up a sometimes dreary fall day and this streeter taps into that feeling with a lemon yellow shirt with matching chain strap bag and head scarf. She keeps things from going OTT by pairing it all with a pair of low-key chino.

Paris notes: Structure and citrus at Stella McCartney, jumpsuits and peasant frills at YSL, and more [gallery]
Paris hasn’t offered up much tailoring for spring ’11. But Stella McCartney built her business on the structured jacket and she isn’t about to abandon what she knows best. Showing amid the opulence of the Opera Garnier, McCartney delivered a collection that hit all the top trends and more. There were soft printed dresses with […]
