We want: Fullum & Holt’s multi-faceted bags and chain-link leather
Fullum & Holt's Jewel Heart Bag On Wednesday evening, I rode the elevator up to Toronto’s the Spoke Club to scope out the fall offerings from Montreal leather goods house Fullum & Holt (fullumandholt.com). If you’re not familiar with the brand, here’s a recap: The company is 113 years old, they have an 80,000 square foot factory in Montreal where they construct all the bags, belts and wallets, overseen by creative director Morgan Lackman. They also make bags for Alexander Wang and have a mini-collection from one of the top names in Canadian fashion, Denis Gagnon.

There are light wool scarves that come in–count them–23 colours for a mere $10 (perfect for the flip-flopping weather) and lots and lots of leather bags, including this studded boho piece, a steal […]

Spring’s best shoes, bags and jewellery in our Accessories Guide
Accessories have been big catwalk news for the past few seasons. Think of the giant statement necklaces introduced two years ago, or last fall’s over-the-knee boots. One of this spring’s most talked-about pieces was a pair of alien-like shoes from Alexander McQueen–though to eyes that hadn’t seen them in a while, the season’s clutch of […]

7 bags you can take through airport security
It’s a pretty confusing time to be travelling right now, what with airport security regulations changing on a fairly regular basis. Here’s some recent bad news: If you’re flying into the U.S. (or are connecting through the U.S.), you’re not allowed to take any carry-on baggage. [Update: As of January 20, you are now allowed […]

People who buy knock-off handbags are probably going to buy the real thing anyway
Think you’re saving money by buying a fakola designer handbag? Maybe not: An MIT professor has found that someone who buys a knock-off LV Speedy or Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag are actually pretty likely to buy the real thing eventually. Renee Richardson Gosline interviewed people who had knowingly bought counterfeit goods and found that 46 of […]

Accessories designer Jessica Jensen makes a foray into dresses
Photography by Raymund Galsim Handbag designer Jessica Jensen held her Spring 2010 preview on Friday night at the Thrush Holmes Empire gallery on Toronto’s Queen St. West. Jensen displayed the collection alongside works by her artist husband, Joshua Jensen-Nagle and both explored the same theme: the calm after the storm.
Jensen’s collection of simply-shaped totes, clutches and satchels was crafted from basket-woven leather and wave-like panels in soft greys, seafoam, purples, citrus green and blush.

Vancouver: Four Father’s Day finds
If your dad is anything like mine, he can be trouble to buy for. To help you in your quest for the perfect Father’s Day gift, I’ve detailed a few great finds from around Vancouver:
Bailey of Hollywood’s Sydney (above, $109), is the perfect hat for a dapper dad. Available at Granville Island’s emporium of headpieces, Edie Hats (1666 Johnston St., Suite 4 The Netloft, Granville Island 604-683-4280), this panama hat is woven from toquilla palm fibers and features a teardrop crown and a rich navy sash. Definitely a piece from dad’s wardrobe that I would borrow!

Edmonton: Bag lady style
Like most fashion-obsessed women, I love mixing high and low fashion to create edgy and unique looks: A Preen dress with a Gap anorak; a Joe Fresh Style shirt with a Diane von Furstenberg skirt. And if the look is willing, there is nothing I love more than adding accessories. From vintage jewellery to designer shoes and locally handcrafted bags, I love them all. A few weeks ago, I accompanied my husband and three young sons to the Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market (10310-83 Ave., 780-439-1844, Saturdays) in search of homemade jam and baby red potatoes, but instead discovered The Bag & Bath Ladies a.k.a. Diane Murphy and Helen Brassington and their gorgeous one-of-a-kind bags ($12 to $75).

Toronto: One of a Kind round-up
A dress from My Mom Made That. Photography by Nadine Spizzirri Despite living in a fast-paced city, the concept of craftsmanship isn’t something that exists only at the pioneer village. To wear and produce handmade goods in a mass-produced world is a bold statement, which is why the D.I.Y. aesthetic is often referenced by the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Marc Jacobs. Handicrafts have never been trendier and highlights from my latest visit to Toronto’s One of a Kind Show (oneofakindshow.com) provide an up-to-date snapshot of the city’s arts and crafts scene.
