FASHION Plates: Fall’s fresh florals
By Randi Bergman and Jordan Porter
While flowers and chilly fall weather usually don’t go hand-in-hand, cooler temperatures won’t cause petals to fall from our wardrobes. Inspired by David Hockney’s Fresh Flowers exhibit at the ROM and looks from Mary Katrantzou and Jil Sander’s Fall 2011 collections, we put together a bouquet of fresh florals to take you through the season.

FASHION Plates: Animal magnetism
While animal prints—leopard, zebra, snake—never really go out of style, this season we’re dealing with a whole other beast… literally. From cute little bunnies to fearsome felines, animals ran wild on fall runways. That clever little fox is one of our absolute faves, and with representations from fast-fashion H&M to luxury leather label Mulberry joining this fashion pack, there’s a little something for everyone.

We’ve given you the etiquette guide on how to snag the best seats in town, whether it be the steam room at Stillwater or beside Ryan Gosling (swoon!) at a Queen West watering hole, but now it’s time for us to show you how to really get his attention: by looking good, ladies. FASHION plates: Daphne Guinness
Daphne Guiness shot by Neilson Barnard/Getty Images for Barneys New York What makes Daphne Guinness a fashion icon? It could be the instantly recognizable platinum and black–striped hairdo, the sky-high heels, or the over-the-top collection of couture clothes and extravagant jewellery. More so, though, it’s the heiress’s fearlessness when it comes to the way she dresses. The Museum at FIT (like so many others) has taken notice and will host an exhibit of Guinness’s clothing collection starting in September. We can’t wait to check out the lineup, which is sure to include some pieces by Guinness favourite Alexander McQueen, so in honour of the occasion we bring you a Daphne-themed edition of FASHION Plates. Take a look through our picks for how to channel a bit of Daphne with every look.

FASHION plates: Summer camp style
The daily grind of summer city life, staring longingly out the window from our overly air-conditioned cubicles, has us beat. We want to be young again, we want to roll up our sleeping bag, pack up our trunk and head north for a summer filled with early morning polar bear swims, roasting marshmallows, weaving friendship bracelets and crushing on cute counselors. Alas, we’re not 15 anymore, but with a cottage invite (or a backyard lean-to if you’re desperate), weekends can be all about bringing back those dog days spent by the dock, complete with bikinis, plaid button-downs and maybe, if you’re lucky, even a summer crush…or two.

FASHION plates: Rainbow Brite
Forget somewhere over the rainbow, we’ve brought a bunch of fun-coloured finds right to your fingertips. Inspired by Christopher Kane’s neon Resort 2012 collection, we’ve put together a set of rainbow-themed goodies that are almost as good as a pot of gold. Take from our fashionable gradient to (literally) highlight your wardrobe.

FASHION plates: Fellini
By Randi Bergman and Jordan Porter
Fellini’s in Toronto (at least in spirit), and we can’t get the 8 ½ director out of our heads. Although he experimented with quite a few styles during his 30-year career, it’s his signature drama, seductiveness and extravagance that are on display at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in the form of film stills, magazine clippings and more. In honour of the molto dolce occasion, we bring you a Fellini-inspired edition of FASHION Plates, to help you channel the indulgent, sexy attitude of his many muses. So, up the glamour and get shopping.
Head to the TIFF Bell Lightbox for Fellini: Spectacular Obsessions and take in the chic excess associated with the director.
