Inside downtown Toronto’s first Marshalls location: Gucci, Nike, Roxy and more flood the racks inside what used to be clubland’s hottest spot
Check out the first downtown Toronto Marshalls
The doors at 126 John St. in Toronto have been shut for two years until Marshalls—an American version of our beloved Winners—reopened them. After the downfall of Peter Gatien’s mega-club/mega-maze, C!RCA, no one knew what to expect from the ridiculously large space until now.
The first downtown location (there are over a dozen other locations in Ontario) of Marshalls spans two floors and occupies 29,000 square feet of off-price designer goods and a whole lot of deals.

Scuba do: Check out FASHION’s photo shoot and go behind the scenes in tropical Hawaii
Escape the chill and head to heavenly Hawaii in resort brights, surfer prints and dive-inspired details. For our very first resort collections shoot, we couldn’t imagine a more fitting setting than the swaying palms and long stretches of white sandy beach on Oahu—especially since Givenchy, Stella McCartney, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Marni resort were blooming with wild botanical prints and scuba-inspired silhouettes in a tropical paradise palette. Armed with a salt water–filled spray bottle and a boatload of bronzer, our hair and makeup artist Greg Wencel created a sun-kissed, unfussy beach beauty look for model Natalia Bogdanova. A short drive along the coast from Waikiki, we scaled the sloping cliffscape to the crashing waves below to shoot on sparkling black rocks at Lana’i Lookout (or Rifle Range, as the locals call it) and Halona Cove. We spent the day flinging ourselves into the pounding surf to cool off between frames. Our story was completed with a professional surfer as handsome accessory—and on the last day of the trip, we mustered the courage to take a lesson and catch a few waves of our own.

The daily steal: Painterly print dress, $51
The hardest thing about fall is giving up all the prints that made summer so fun. So to make the transition a little less gloomy, a dark painterly print feels like the antidote. This simple dress with a pretty ruffle ($51, roxy.com) will pair well with tights and a cozy cardigan, sharp blazer, or when […]

The daily steal: Little black printed dress, $51
You can never have too many Little Black Dresses. This one from Roxy ($51, roxy.com) introduces a bit of variety with its sharp little pattern, without straying far from what you need your LBD to do. Roxy refers to it as the “On the Road Dress,” though we wouldn’t advise any highway-side Kerouac-ian behaviour in […]

Learn to shred at Snow Camp
I might not be competing in the 2010 Games (at under one month to go, I think I missed the boat), but it’s never too late to brush up on my snowboarding skills. My favourite place to do just that was at Roxy’s two-day all girls All Star Snow Camp (from $185, whistlerblackcomb.com/roxycamps), which recommences after the Olympics break.

The daily steal: Little black dress, $32
It’s a common maxim that a girl can never have too many little black dresses. With all the errands that get added to your list at this time of year, it can be hard to get to the dry cleaner in time to ensure that last night’s eggnog spill is done away with in time […]

Fashion news: Blonde gazeteer, Anna Sui to do the undoable, and a more chocolatey Giles
FitFlop, the shoes that tone your leg muscles while you walk, have signed Anna Sui to design a special edition pair. Did someone get their hands on a pair of Uggs and a Bedazzler? Even Anna Sui can’t work her magic on these. [The Cut]
Better know a blonde with The Pipeline’s handy chart. [Refinery 29]

Do not work out in ratty sweats! Roxy has cute new gear
I admit it: I have sat safely on my couch and sniggered at the poor out-of-breath dieters on The Last 10 Pounds Boot Camp and Bulging Brides. Recently, I got my comeuppance. No, I didn’t slip and fall on my way to the fridge during the commercial— I attended a boot camp with Tommy Europe, the same man putting those reality TV ladies through their paces. Granted, mine only lasted one hour, rather than weeks edited into an hour, but my hour had no commercial breaks to catch your breath and hit the snack cupboard.
