Today I am a true victim of fashion. In between Fendi and D&G there’s a break just long enough to squeeze in a quick visit to the Marni outlet (on every editor’s must-do list this week). You can tell its fashion week from the number of car/drivers parked in front of the unassuming “secret” address. Through two electronic gates, down a long alley, into an apartment complex mixed with bicycles and hanging laundry we tread until we arrive at the back door entrance of Marni mecca.

Buh-bye to short, tight and aggressive. Spring’s big message is shaping up to be “easy does it” and what’s ruling the runways now is anything long, lean, loose,  languid and light! There were gorgeous colour-blocked furs at Fendi–in the opening black, white and grey coat or a long multi-hued brown vest. Another look to loveo: the belted loden coat over a long ochre full skirt. The Fendi boot was a wicked take on galoshes, in suede or ostrich. With a high heel of course!

Burberry is hopping on the social-media bandwagon with their Burberry Prorsum runway show. It will be simulcast live from London Fashion Week at live.burberry.com at 1:30 p.m. EST today. The brand recently launched Facebook and Twitter accounts, and is set to create a site called “Art of the Trench,” where loyal fans can contribute photos of themselves in their classic nova-check coats. Celebrity clothing lines are being hit hard by the recession. Anna Wintour, and we’re sure many others, is pleased by the economic situation, saying it will weed out the weak. “Every D-level celebrity who thought they could make a quick buck by designing a handbag or whatever is going to disappear,” she said. Stars who don’t seem to have staying power (at least in the design world) include Justin Timberlake, Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Lopez. [WSJ]

The Sundance Channel’s series The Day Before, which chronicles the 48 hours before the Fall 2009 shows for Proenza Schouler, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel, Fendi, premiere tomorrow, but clips are out. While we have a life-long fascination with all things Karl Lagerfeld, our favourite clips are with Gaultier, who gives a charming tour of Paris from the rooftop of his studio. 

We never tire of seeing behind-the-scenes candy like this. Karl sketching, assistants aging headbands with cobblestones and close-ups of all the beautifully crafted clothes.
