Happy Chanel Day! Watch the new Audrey Tautou commercial to celebrate. [Via Now Smell This]
Alternately, you could celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Stylewise, it’s really either/or. [Refinery 29]
Oh, and the Met Costume Institute Ball was last night. We couldn’t go, so New York had to pinch hit for us. Thanks guys. [The Cut]

Parties: Women X Women and Jezebel
Photography by Jeremy North-Lewis Girls on film: Canadian model Coco Rocha, in head-to-toe Greta Constantine (fall, of course), sent flash bulbs into a frenzy on King Street on Thursday night when she arrived at the Women X Women party, held at the future home of the Fashion House condos. (One photographer even joked with the new redhead that she was looking better than Ms. Jolie.)

Toronto: Holt Renfrew Media Cocktail
On Monday night, Holt Renfrew hosted their media/VIP cocktail party, always the kickoff to Toronto Fashion Week. The gotta-get-an-invite party has long been held in the first floor handbag section, but this season, they moved the festivities up to the new third-floor contemporary space. The other change was a mini runway presentation featuring five Canadian […]

Backstage beauty: Greta Constantine
The Mlle. look at Greta Constantine. Photo courtesy of the designers Instead of the traditional army of models bearing the same look, three distinct personalities walked the runway at Greta Constantine on Friday night.
Mlle: M.A.C senior artist Melissa Gibson described this look as a “throwback to the strong, chic French woman.” Lids were blended with a mix of Paint Pot in “Soft Ochre” and Eye Shadow in “Saddle” to “add dimension, not colour”. Mascara was nixed so that the inner portion of the eye, including the lash line, was kept light. “It still makes the eyes stand out, but more like a painting.

David Dixon and Barbie Fall 2009
DAVID DIXON Fall 2009. Photography by Jess Baumung Rev up your air-kissers: Fashion Week officially got underway with the Holt Renfrew media cocktail party. Upon arrival we took the escalators up to the newly-facelifted third floor–contemporary never looked so chic. The walls have literally been brought down to reveal an au courant open-concept floor plan that highlights many of the lust-worthy labels that even those struck by this downward dog economy still covet.

Designer preview: Greta Contstantine
Greta Constantine designers Kirk Pickersgill (left) and Stephen Wong We always look forward to the Greta Constantine (gretaconstantine.com) show. Designers Stephen Wong and Kirk Pickersgill are the go-to pair for silk jersey dresses that are ready to party party. (Their frocks have been spotted on the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Kreesha Turner, Iman and Nelly Furtado.) So when we heard they were doing pants for fall, we had to talk.

New York: DKNY, Diane von Furstenberg, Jeremy Laing and Miss Sixty Fall 2009
From left: Chanel Iman at DKNY, Karlie Kloss and Bruna Tenorio at Diane von Furstenberg. Photography by Peter Stigter Judging from the colourful assortment of YSL bags, Marni necklaces and Louboutin ankle booties trotting around fashion week, the Bryant Park tents appear to be recession-proof. Whispers throughout the day said otherwise, with editors and buyers repeatedly asking “Where is everybody this season?” But it’s early, so I am decidedly optimistic (despite my NYC-approved all black ensemble).

Toronto: Greta Constantine
{FASHION WEEK SPRING 2009 TORONTO}
By Sarah Casselman
The Greta Constantine Spring 2009 show brought a packed house to Circa nightclub for a glimpse of the duo’s gorge, goddess-inspired gowns. The beefcake male models (think Speedos and less than one percent body fat) are just the icing on this no-cal cake.

Toronto Fashion Week: Day three
Shown: GRETA CONSTANTINE Fall 2008. Photography by Sarah Casselman
The media lounge is starting to fill up with grumpy eds: Not enough food, the loo sitch is rather bleak, and the rain is starting to wreak havoc on blowouts and Bruno Frisonis. Best accessories spotted at the tents: Everything-but-the-kitchen-sink patent totes, jewel-tone cocktail rings, fedoras, bright scarves and feather hairbands. New must-have nail colour: Red.

Day Three: Burning the midnight oil
FASHION arrived at the tents ready for a full (read: long) evening of spring shows. We arrive at our seats just as the lights dim and take our place in the front row beside The Toronto Star stylist (and FASHION’s fab friend) Derick Chetty.

Day four: TGIF
After a late night (12 a.m.!) at the J.Lindeberg fashion show, hosted by Elmer Olsen Model Management at the Ultra Supper Club on Queen Street West, FASHION realized two things the next morning:
- Sunglasses and a slick of bright lipgloss do a feting femme good
- Blazer-wearing boys (in the show and the crowd) are on our style radar
