New York Fashion Week Spring 2013: Why J.Crew can do no wrong, plus our top 5 picks from yesterday’s shows
Photography by Peter Stigter It was a whirlwind day of running between shows and showrooms, but I’ve managed to suss out five of the best offerings of the day, beginning with the most unexpected one from Oscar de la Renta. From a man known for glamorous gowns and ladylike day-wear, it was a surprise to see Karlie Kloss open the show in a latex top and skin-tight pencil skirt. Clearly courting a younger contingent, uncharacteristically punky coloured streaks were added to wispy beehives and billowy shorts suits were on offer for evening. Is Oscar abandoning his core clientele? I seriously doubt it, but it’s always refreshing to see a designer throw us a curveball and stretch his style beyond the expected.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013: Karlie Kloss bakes cookies at DKNY, Naomi Campbell walks Zac Posen and more!
Coco Rocha at Zac Posen's Spring 2013 fashion show shot by Peter Stigter Blogger Bryanboy wins the biggest try-hard award. Wearing Alexander McQueen‘s mirrored visor, printed Prada brogues and a neon lime fur camera strap, he’s only an it-bag away from completef must-have overload.
Victoria Beckham‘s collections keep getting better and better. With husband David Beckham beaming from the front row, her new take on tailoring expands her offering beyond the beautiful, but now expected body-con dresses, into tailored separates territory. A pimento mini skirted suit and simple long-sleeve car coat stood out among the otherwise black and white palette.

MTV’s House of Style is back! But who will replace Cindy and Naomi?
Photo via MTV In a bygone time, supermodels ruled the world, walking pack-like down a Versace runway or gathering en masse in front of Peter Lindbergh’s lens. Alone they were already unstoppable, but these Amazon women were also friends, a supermodel gang that had the world watching their every move. This supermodel-obsessed era was known as the ‘90s, and the true archeological evidence of this time was a show known as House of Style. In some of the most amazing news we’ve heard all week, MTV has just today announced the cult favourite will be returning in October, this time as a more digitally based series with lots of social media crossover.
Running from 1989 to 1999, the show’s 72 episodes not only captured the enormous power these women had at the time (in one episode, longtime host Cindy Crawford talks about how she once killed time trying to figure out how much money she made per minute) but the behind-the-scenes goings-on of their lives and of the fashion industry as a whole. The show took these seemingly untouchable beauties and made them a bit more real. Case in point: Naomi Campbell unabashedly applying zit cream on-camera.

Quotable: Which model wanted to be a doctor like her dad?
Who says models don’t have other things on their minds? Certainly not Karlie Kloss, who told Vogue about her career path, had she not become a model: “To be a doctor, like my father. I think to have the skill set and the ability to physically help others in matters of life and death must […]

Enjoy today’s visual feast, and be sure to come back next week when we share our snaps from Toronto.

PFW Style Snaps: 38 shots from outside Viktor & Rolf, including 7 of Katy Perry’s new blue do
Photography by Lewis Mirrett There was so much fabulousness going on outside the Viktor & Rolf show on Saturday—think Karlie Kloss with moody stained lips and stringy hair, Anna Dello Russo in Big Bird fur, and Gareth Pugh looking as edgy as his own collections—but alas, none of it could contend with Katy Perry, her vibrant cobalt Viktor & Rolf swirl trench, or her dyed-to-match Wonder Woman-blue do. The latest in a string of candy (and comic) coloured dye jobs was all the buzz all weekend long, and so it’s only fitting that it get a photo tribute here!

When heels attack: Newbie model repeatedly falls at Anthony Vaccarello’s Fall 2012 show in Paris
Paris Fashion Week is proving to have its ups and (very literal) downs. Yesterday, model Pauline Hoarau had some major shoe problems at the Anthony Vaccarello Fall 2012 show. The newbie model fell so many times during the finale that she had to be propped up like a rag doll and escorted off the runway […]

They said/We said: The real reason why Vogue Italia took down Karlie Kloss’ photo is revealed
Photography by Vogue Italia Last week, we discussed the possible reasons why Vogue Italia took down a photo of Karlie Kloss’ editorial from their December 2011 issue. The photo in question, which displayed the model’s thin figure and protruding hipbone, looks a bit unreal and considering the editorial deemed her “the new body,” negative reactions soon followed.

They said/We said: A controversial photo of Karlie Kloss’s body is removed off Vogue Italia’s website. We discuss why
Photography by Vogue Italia Yesterday, a photo from December 2011 Vogue Italia cover shoot featuring Karlie Kloss’s toned buttocks was all over the internet, as well as 15 more, detailing all the assets of her incredible bod. It seemed that perfection was not all that there was to be seen, as vogue.it mysteriously removed this image from the slideshow on their website early today. There was no reason given for removing the one photo—but comments pouring in on Facebook and other sites have been negative reactions to the super-skinny body on display. The position of Kloss’ hips and the shot’s lighting— most obviously, her unhealthily protruding hipbone—look a bit unreal, and the potentially generous use of Photoshop on her hips and legs create the look of a seemingly misshapen body. Perhaps that was reason enough for Vogue to take it down.

Quotable: Karlie Kloss thinks that being a Victoria’s Secret model is the trick to not gaining any weight during pregnancy
One of the biggest headlines surrounding this week’s Victoria’s Secret show was the runway debut of 19-year-old model Karlie Kloss. While talking to Fashionista before the show, Kloss admitted her young age was an advantage in terms of pre-show prep—but she also thinks the older Angels are rewarded with a pregnancy secret that she wants […]
