Fashion news: McQueen label to carry on, models-turn-DJs, Anna Wintour abandons the Diesel show, and more
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN Spring 2010. Photography by Peter Stigter One week after the news of Alexander McQueen‘s suicide, the Gucci Group confirmed that the designer’s label will continue. GG President and CEO Robert Polet said, “We believe in the future of the brand…Lee was very proud of the people working in his company, and so am I.” [Vogue UK]
Meanwhile the British Fashion Council will pay tribute to McQueen at London Fashion Week, setting up a wall in the main tent where guests can pin notes written to the designer and his family. At the end of the week, the BFC will compile the notes into a book and give it to the McQueen’s family. [WWD]

Fashion news: Nicholas Kirkwood for Liberty, Modern Amusement shutters and Ciara booed at Givenchy
A 50th anniversary is reason to celebrate, and that is just what Nicholas Kirkwood is doing. In honour of the UK-based store Liberty of London‘s Carnaby Street location, the brand is using two of their best-known floral prints-the Bounty and the Santa Maria-and covering a pair of their signature heels with the prints. Fingers crossed these styles make their way across the pond. [Fashionista]
Recent attempts made by the trendy label Modern Amusement, including the departure of it’s CEO and company-wide layoffs, weren’t enough to save the brand. The company known best for it’s crow logo has has shut down operations, leaving boutiques and department stores without their spring shipments. [WWD]

Video: Erdem Spring 2010
“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” So says Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada. Even for Erdem himself, florals are nothing new. And yet, when a designer consistently does flowers as beautifully as Moralioglu, it’s hard to complain. On his clothes, they always look fresh in vibrant colours or the intricate, near 3-D embroidery of the […]

Ruffian designs Anthropologie line, Burberry gets digital, and celebrity designers in trouble
Burberry is hopping on the social-media bandwagon with their Burberry Prorsum runway show. It will be simulcast live from London Fashion Week at live.burberry.com at 1:30 p.m. EST today. The brand recently launched Facebook and Twitter accounts, and is set to create a site called “Art of the Trench,” where loyal fans can contribute photos of themselves in their classic nova-check coats. Celebrity clothing lines are being hit hard by the recession. Anna Wintour, and we’re sure many others, is pleased by the economic situation, saying it will weed out the weak. “Every D-level celebrity who thought they could make a quick buck by designing a handbag or whatever is going to disappear,” she said. Stars who don’t seem to have staying power (at least in the design world) include Justin Timberlake, Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Lopez. [WSJ]

Video: Matthew Williamson’s return to London Fashion Week
Matthew Williamson’s Spring 2010 collection contained barely a hint of the flowy boho that made him famous. The parade of skinny pants, sharp chartreuse jackets and body-con dresses in arty prints and wild colours–that much hasn’t changed–was harder and more structured than previous efforts. Williamson also seemed thrilled to be showing at home–that way, he says, his parents can make it to the show. Video after the jump. -
Dispatches from London: LFW opening weekend
Welcome to London Fashion Week! After religiously checking the weather for days before my departure, this fashionista has been blessed with dry weather and sunshine—shocking for this city.
No major Anna Wintour sightings yet—although she is reported to be here covering the shows for the 25th anniversary of the British Fashion Council. I did spy her at the fall shows last February in New York, though, so I know exactly what the tiny bobbed one looks like in person. I’m keeping my peepers peeled!

Mark Fast’s size scuffle, model flops at Phillip Lim and more
Mark Fast’s show at London Fashion Week is causing a stir for his use of three average-sized models. Two staff members–the stylist and creative designer–quit because of the decision. The real upset here is that it’s even a big deal that these girls are giving the rake-thin beanpoles a run for their money. There’s plenty of room on the runway for everyone, right? [Fashionista] [YouTube]
What do you think of Fast’s decision? Do you want to see more realistic sizes on the runway? Tell us in the comments!
