Vancouver: Louis Vuitton opens Canada’s first Maison
Canada’s most stylish came home, if you will, to Vancouver to fete the opening of the country’s first Louis Vuitton Maison (730 Burrard St., 604-687-4644, vuitton.com). The revamped Hotel Vancouver store, the fourth Maison in North America and 12th in the world (other Maison cities include San Francisco, Tokyo, London, and, of course, Paris), features an installation work by Vancouver artist Steven Shearer, as well as a glossy “bag bar” and, finally, the complete ready-to-wear collection.

Paris notes: Colour-blocked cheongsams and a zebra-striped Kristen McMenamy at Louis Vuitton

There were colour-blocked cheongsams, sequined obi sashes on skinny lurex knits, a Panda face tunic in sequins, pyjama pantsuits, lantern fringe and fan-shaped beading. Kristen McMenamy ended the show topless with painted-on zebra stripes and a pair of tuxedo trousers. I dare you to try that one at home.

Fashion news: Corinne Day dies, Kate Moss and Topshop end partnership, and is Tomas Maier next up for H&M?
British fashion photographer Corinne Day died Saturday at the age of 45. Day, whose photos of Kate Moss for The Face launched the model’s career, lost her battle with a brain tumor. [Fashionista]H&M released a video dubbed “Designer Collaborations 2010” that stars a mystery male designer, who an eagle-eyed viewer spotted as Bottega Veneta designer Tomas Maier, sparking rumours of a collaboration. American designer Ralph Rucci has cancelled his runway show for the this year’s New York Fashion Week. Rucci’s president Vivan Natta will be taking an extended medical leave and Rucci has decided to hold individual appointments at his Soho showroom instead, a move he says will save the company US$500,000. George Clooney was recently in court in Milan testifying against the people who claimed he was starting the clothing line “GC Exclusive.” He denied the legitimacy of a photo of himself with the defendant (whom he supposedly never met) on a sartorial claim: “I also don’t wear long jean shorts.” [The Cut]

Fashion news: Roberto Cavalli cleared of tax fraud charges, LV designs a World Cup trunk and Naomi Campbell is human after all

Photography by Peter Stigter After eight years, Roberto Cavalli has cleared his name with the Italian authorities for tax fraud charges. The designer has been in and out of the courtroom for after the initial 2002 accusation that he remodeled his uber-luxurious Tuscan villa and charged the costs to his company. Despite two prison sentences (neither of which he served) Cavalli can happily lounge in his villa as a free man. [WWD]
