Paris: Laetitia Casta and Elle Macpherson walk in Louis Vuitton’s lady-like show
While the rest of Paris was doing sportswear, Marc Jacobs was doing full-on lady at Louis Vuitton. A nipped-in New Look silhouette adorned a curvier-than-usual group of catwalkers (Laetitia Casta, Lara Stone, Elle Macpherson, Adriana Lima et al.)–fitted boucle coats, floral, checked or tweedy circle skirts, smooth leathers, bustier tops and oversized cable knits over […]

Some fresh details have emerged in the news that bloggers have been included as voters for the CFDA awards. Turns out that bloggers weren’t just simply sent ballots, but actually had to ask to get them, and only then will the CFDA review the request and make the decision as to whether their blogger status is deemed worthy to vote [The Cut]

Fashion news: Giancarlo Giametti gets a bit TMI, the reason behind the Rykiel collab and Jessica Stam for Nina Ricci

SONIA RYKIEL Spring 2010. Photography by Peter Stigter Nathalie Rykiel explained the reason for the Sonia Rykiel collab with H&M: they copied her! In an interview, the creative director revealed that she told the chain that if they wanted “[their] girls to wear Sonia Rykiel from H&M, let’s let them have the real thing!” [Nylon via Fashionologie]
Valentino partner Giancarlo Giammetti has learned just how far Facebook networking stretches, especially when it involves negative press. After watching the Valentino spring 2010 show in Paris, Giammetti took to his FB page and changed his status to read “not sad … just surprised. … We have always supported the new designers and we love them, but this time we have to distance ourselves from this ridiculous circus.” After a flood of comments, Giammetti deleted his status, “…because it was becoming [too] heavy.” [The Cut]

7 bags you can take through airport security
It’s a pretty confusing time to be travelling right now, what with airport security regulations changing on a fairly regular basis. Here’s some recent bad news: If you’re flying into the U.S. (or are connecting through the U.S.), you’re not allowed to take any carry-on baggage. [Update: As of January 20, you are now allowed […]

Fashion news: Tom Pecheux named Estée Lauder creative director, Daisy Lowe joins Louis Vuitton, and Megha Mittal buys Escada

We’re all atwitter with excitement (literally, we tweeted about it) that Estée Lauder has brought on runway makeup heavyweight Tom Pecheux as its new creative director. This means we can expect to see the line being used backstage at high-profile international shows, and we can’t wait to see how he’ll infuse his Parisian cool into the all-American—and, let’s be honest, coveted by our grandmothers—brand. His first collection hits counters next spring. [WWD]Thirty-three-year-old Megha Mittal has beat out Sean Ley in the bidding war to buy Escada. The daughter of the chief executive of the largest steel company in the world, Mittal has been looking to invest in a major fashion house for over a year. She will keep CEO Bruno Saelzer on, and plans for Escada to become an affordable-luxury label offering more ready-to-wear pieces. [The Cut]

Fashion news: Erin Wasson goes preppy, Louboutin for Barbie and a happy belated b-day to ALT!
Can’t believe we missed this: Our favourite caftan-wearing Vogue editor, André Leon Talley, turned 60 on Friday. We’d send you more Louis Vuitton as a gift, but you appear to have it all [Proof]. [FWD]If only we could all lose our tacky phone cases and upgrade to a dazzling Dior phone. With the price ranging from $6,500 to $13,400, Dior has designed a line of luxe cell phones bedazzled in different gems. From gold-plated with sapphire crystals to the diamond-encrusted flip phone, the flashiest phone to ever be flipped seems to have arrived. [The Cut]

The Paris (Fashion Week) Review: Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Miu Miu

Photography by Sarah Nicole Prickett I forgot Marc Jacobs was making timeliness happen: apparently, his last two NY shows have begun promptly, and today I nearly missed his Louis Vuitton spectacular because I decided to walk over from Colette Dinnigan. Funny thing: when you ask someone at Paris Fashion Week how long it takes to get somewhere, they give you two times: “weeth heels” and “without.”
I should’ve gone without. But I did skitter in right as the show began, and how lucky I did! Because this show was fun–girlish, giddy fun–which is something I’d no idea I was missing, til 2:30 p.m. (sharp) today. There’s lots of drama in Paris (did you watch McQueen live? I’m still amazed), and there’s beige restraint, and there’s beauty, of course–but not a lot of fun. And what else could you call this bonbon assortment of plaid and prints, pinafores and pockets, and–wholly amazing–poodle hair? The girls looked like Marie Antoinettes on acid. Tassels swung wildly from messenger bags and trussed up shoes–sometimes they were white fur, like funny moustaches.

Fashion news: Stam sits out Paris, Giorgio Armani rests up and Tarzan at Balmain

Photography by Peter Stigter Jessica Stam is “glued” to her bed and missing Paris Fashion Week. Send get well messages! [@jess_stam]

Tim Gunn may not like the whole Lindsay Lohan/Ungaro thing, but apparently it’s all his fault. Also, rumour in the Twitter-verse is that some buyers have declined invites because of Lohan’s involvement. Even if that’s true, we bet that show is going to be a mad house. [FWD, Fashionologie]

Anna’s ’90s casual look, Olivia Palermo launches jewellery line, Annie Leibovitz designs for Vuitton
Yes it’s true, even Anna Wintour made the same horrendous fashion faux pas of the early ’90s as everyone else: she rocked embroidered sweatshirts paired with pink leggings and ballet flats. I also spy an additional sweater tied around Anna’s waist. Shameful, but we all went there, didn’t we? [Huffington Post]Sam Haskins, known for his fashion photography that has inspired stylists and designers for the past 30 years, has a new book coming out called Fashion Etcetera. The book was published in partnership with Tommy Hilfiger, who has paid homage to Haskins’ work in recent years. Haskins is currently in hospital recovering from a stroke he sustained last week.
