Katy Perry vs. Olivia Wilde vs. Coca Rocha: Who wore the Emanuel Ungaro leopard-print dress best?
See the leopard-print Emanuel Ungaro looks up close »
It’s the battle of the fashionable felines and the competition is fierce. Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards saw a solid mix of fashion hits and misses on the red carpet. And though it was hard to focus on anything other than Miley’s mini buns/butt, something about Katy Perry’s dress was giving us serious déjà vu. We soon realized that we’d seen her leopard-print Emanuel Ungaro look not once, but twice before. The gown was worn by Canadian model Coco Rocha at this year’s Met Gala, and more recently by our cover girl Olivia Wilde in FASHION’s September issue. Quelle scandal!
Rocha wore a floor-length version of the dress (that only a supermodel could pull off) to May’s annual Met Gala in New York. The thigh-high slit was refreshing, considering the gown’s high neck and long sleeves. The model completed the look with ankle boots and blunt bangs. Rocha had fun with her makeup opting for seriously dramatic eyes and bright pink cheeks. At the VMAs, Perry, who undoubtedly chose the print in celebration of her insta-hit “Roar,” paired the seriously embellished curve-hugging gown with black and gold sandals by Céline. Unlike Rocha, the singer let the dress do the talking (or the meowing) with minimal makeup and a high ponytail.

Behind the tongue wagging? The Coveteur goes backstage with Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards
Talk about hitting the jackpot. On a day ruled by Miley Cyrus love/hate/backlash/confusion, The Coveteur has produced proverbial gold with a behind-the-scenes feature on Cyrus’s MTV Video Music Awards performance pre-prep, live on the site now.
The feature follows Cyrus and stylist Simone Harouche (she’s been responsible for the singer’s Susan Powter-meets-Cynthia doll makeover) backstage at the Barclay’s Stadium as they beautify for the show alongside Denika Bedrossian on make-up and Brant Mayfield on hair (yes to those genius twisty buns!).

Rihanna at the Paralympics: We’re in love with the singer’s rad new cropped haircut and custom Opening Ceremony outfit
Check out the photos from Rihanna’s performance »
At the closing ceremonies of the London Paralympics on Sunday, Rihanna wowed the 80,000 strong crowd at the Olympic Stadium as a special guest of Coldplay, who played a three hour long concert. Rihanna showed off her new haircut, a short pixie bob that was revealed last week in Los Angeles at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she just so happened to pick up some awards. According to her longtime hairstylist, Ursula Stephen, Rihanna had been thinking of going short for a while and didn’t want to wait. Returning to her shorter locks (and perhaps taking a cue from Miley Cyrus?), the makeover was a long time coming since we’ve been used to Rihanna’s bleached blond or red longer ‘do for the past year or so, and it shone through at the event. Rihanna was more covered up than usual in orange wide leg silk taffeta track pants, an orange mesh top, and an orange robe and boots all custom made by Opening Ceremony Spring/Summer 2013. She joined the band (on their over the top pirate ship) to perform their hit “Princess of China”. She then returned later on in the ceremony to perform on her own with “We Found Love”, and then later again with the help of Jay-Z for “Run this Town”, while wearing a black sheer top with a black bra peeking through, reflective baggy knee-length shorts and black sunglasses to top off the look.

MTV’s House of Style is back! But who will replace Cindy and Naomi?
In a bygone time, supermodels ruled the world, walking pack-like down a Versace runway or gathering en masse in front of Peter Lindbergh’s lens. Alone they were already unstoppable, but these Amazon women were also friends, a supermodel gang that had the world watching their every move. This supermodel-obsessed era was known as the ‘90s, and the true archeological evidence of this time was a show known as House of Style. In some of the most amazing news we’ve heard all week, MTV has just today announced the cult favourite will be returning in October, this time as a more digitally based series with lots of social media crossover.
Running from 1989 to 1999, the show’s 72 episodes not only captured the enormous power these women had at the time (in one episode, longtime host Cindy Crawford talks about how she once killed time trying to figure out how much money she made per minute) but the behind-the-scenes goings-on of their lives and of the fashion industry as a whole. The show took these seemingly untouchable beauties and made them a bit more real. Case in point: Naomi Campbell unabashedly applying zit cream on-camera.

Growing up Gomez: Selena Gomez is leaving the kiddie shows behind and moving on to more adult pursuits
By Dennis Hensley
On her new album, When the Sun Goes Down, Selena Gomez sings about self-acceptance (“Who Says”), infatuation (“Whiplash,” which Britney Spears co-wrote) and taming a misbehaving guy (“That’s More Like It,” co-written by Katy Perry). Yet when asked which track reveals the most about her, Gomez ditches the hearts and flowers and goes right for the jugular. “‘Bang Bang Bang’ is probably the most personal,” she says, referring to a snarky kiss-off anthem directed toward an ex, in which she coos put-downs like, “My new boy used to be a model…he looks way better than you” and “When I’m out having fun, you’re gonna be the one that’s broken.”

They said/We said: Will the rest of Beyoncé’s pregnancy be as designer-studded as last night?
It’s hard to top a Gaga performance, let alone when she’s dressed in complete drag, but Beyoncé’s double baby rub/reveal at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards just about killed any mention of the Mother Monster and/or Jo Calderone for the rest of the evening, if not the entire day following.
For the first baby rub of the night, Bey dressed in a bright-orange, loose Lanvin one-shoulder dress. Easy, loose, baby rub approps. And then a glittering Dolce & Gabbana tux: glitter baby rub!
Beyoncé’s first two public preggo outfits hopefully signified that Bey isn’t quite ready to give up the couture. So, what designer duds are in her expanding future? Maybe now is the time to expand the House of Deréon and Rocawear with maternity lines.
