MMVA 2013: The photos and the red carpet scoop from Canada’s biggest awards ceremony
Toronto’s ultimate summer music party took place last night outside the streets of MuchMusic’s Queen Street headquarters. As the A-listers made their way down the red carpet, hundreds of fans greeted and snapped pictures of their favourite actors, artists and South Korean sensation Psy, who made his first Canadian appearance as MMVA co-host.
In her first MMVA appearance, Taylor Swift played the bombshell in a form fitting white mini-dress with black striped details by Herve Leger and Christian Louboutin black gladiator sandals as she picked up the award for favourite international artist. T-Swift accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz and Ofira jewellery as well as her signature red pout, smoky eyes and effortlessly tousled beach waves.
Also sporting smoky eyes was MMVA co-host, Demi Lovato, who took home international video of the year for “Heart Attack.” Trying out an uncharacteristically edgy look (and quite well, we might add!), the singer wore a little black dress with zipper detail and black pumps both by Saint Laurent.

What’s in your bag, Lauren Toyota?
Today, we’re having a look inside the bag belonging to one of MuchMusic’s main gals, Lauren Toyota. As one of the hosts for shows like New.Music.Live and Today’s Top 10, Toyota’s fresh and enthusiastic attitude has made her a mainstay. And with pitch-perfect interviews with the likes of Lady Gaga, Kanye West and The Spice Girls under her belt, it’s no doubt she’s got chops to spare. So without further ado, what does a busy gal like Toyota tote along each and every day?

How to do Carly Rae Jepsen’s MMVA hair and makeup at home! (Did you notice she changed her lipstick colour 3 times?)
Sunday was certainly a big night for Carly Rae Jepsen—the Canadian pop singer won three of the four MMVA awards she was nominated for, performed on stage twice (opening the show with “Call Me Maybe” and later singing “Wild One” with Flo Rida) and did we mention she hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week? Needless to say, there’s no one who better deserved her multiple wardrobe and makeup changes throughout the show. To get to the bottom of the singer’s style, we spoke to Veronica Chu, who was Jepsen’s hairstylist and makeup artist at the award show.

From Carly’s shirtless man-candy to Katy’s butterfly wings, we present all the scoop, winners and photos from this year’s MMVAs!

View the performance photos »Another year, another explosive MMVA street party. This year, some of the biggest names in pop (shout out to those Canadian-made!) took to MuchMusic’s famed Toronto headquarters to delight thousands of screaming fans (and millions watching via the tube) with glitter, champagne showers and more. Co-Hosts LMFAO creeped us out in a partially good, partially bad way as this year’s co-hosts, while everyone from Selena Gomez to Kelly Clarkson to Katy Perry (in butterfly wings, no less) took to the stage. MMVA first-timer Carly Rae Jespen ruled the night with her triple award wins for Video of the Year, MuchMusic.com’s Most Watched Video and the fan-driven UR Fave Video of the Year for “Call Me Maybe.” Oh, and Justin Bieber held a baby (his brother, not his spawn) on the red carpet. Growing up Gomez: Selena Gomez is leaving the kiddie shows behind and moving on to more adult pursuits
By Dennis Hensley
On her new album, When the Sun Goes Down, Selena Gomez sings about self-acceptance (“Who Says”), infatuation (“Whiplash,” which Britney Spears co-wrote) and taming a misbehaving guy (“That’s More Like It,” co-written by Katy Perry). Yet when asked which track reveals the most about her, Gomez ditches the hearts and flowers and goes right for the jugular. “‘Bang Bang Bang’ is probably the most personal,” she says, referring to a snarky kiss-off anthem directed toward an ex, in which she coos put-downs like, “My new boy used to be a model…he looks way better than you” and “When I’m out having fun, you’re gonna be the one that’s broken.”

Introducing our next FASHION + Music guest editor: MuchMusic VJ Sarah Taylor
My closest friends know that every time the seasons change I become a little extra romantic, nostalgic and dreamy while inevitably proclaiming the upcoming season to be my favorite of all time. I’m unaffected by their long eye rolls and I usually take comfort in the current musical soundtrack of my life in those moments. They always seem to punctuate my thoughts and emotions in a much more beautiful and graceful way than whatever reality could ever deliver.
