Afternoon beauty fix: How to rid yourself of post-brow wax bumps
I’ve been waxing my eyebrows for a number of years, but recently I’ve started getting bumps around my brows in the days after a session. Help!
Those little bumps, which don’t always produce sebum like typical acne would, may be a build-up of dead skin cells trapped beneath an aggravated hair follicle. Something similar used to happen to me and I reacted by asking my esthetician to refrain from applying any baby powder or aloe after a wax. -
Afternoon beauty fix: Everything you ever wanted to know about the skin in your armpits
It might not seem like an obvious issue, but I’ve got dark skin in the creases of my underarms. Is there anything I can do to lighten it?
Underarm pigmentation is an infrequently discussed beauty woe, probably because of its inherent embarrassment factor (even though we all suffered through sweaty and possibly smelly teenage years). If you’ve got dark skin beneath your arms, it’s simply a result of shaving your ‘pits—no shame there! -
Afternoon beauty fix: She shoots, she scores! …She’s bruised?
Some people worry about concealing tattoos, but I’m more concerned with covering some post-workout bruises! How can an athletic girl like me still look civilized in a skirt?
For every girl who dives for the Frisbee or takes a tumble off her bike, the following two weeks are often met with a bunch of “what happened?!” inquisitions. But if a wound was a result of a successful soccer match, congratulations are in order—not sympathy! Just like those dark circles under your eyes, bruises are a collection of broken capillaries ruptured when you bump into a surface much harder than your skin. -
Afternoon beauty fix: Give your skin a boost with exfoliation
I’ve heard Madonna is a fan of oxygen skin treatments—and despite a few missteps, she always looks great! Should I follow her lead and partake in regular oxygen facials and body treatments?
Scientific theory states (vaguely) that oxygenation is the process of amplifying the availability of air to certain areas (your skin and bloodstream, for example) and allowing them to “breathe.” Well, your skin doesn’t actually breathe because you’re not an amphibian, you’re a human—meaning your nose, mouth and lungs do all the work. -
Afternoon beauty fix: Have little red bumps on the back of your arms? Welcome to the (dehydrated) club!
Why can’t I exfoliate away the red bumps on my arms and thighs? T-shirt season is fast approaching, and I want them gone!
When I once had those same little bumps on my arms, I was mostly worried that they were acne in an irregular place. Only when I consulted a girlfriend with the same skin condition did I learn that the red bumps are something else, known as “keratosis pilaris”—a form of severely dry skin. -
Afternoon beauty fix: Does anti-aging jargon leave you confused? Here’s what you need to know
I’m lost amongst the variety of anti-aging creams on the shelf at the drugstore—what do I need to be looking for in a preventative product?
It’s a confusing world when it comes to beauty—buzzwords like “retinol” and “collagen” are tossed around as though their meanings are commonly known. Don’t worry, I’m here to simplify. -

What’s the best way to make dewy skin stay put? It’s my go-to texture but it tends to disappear halfway through the day. There are a few tricks to having the same healthy-looking skin when you come home at night as you did when you left for work in the morning. Once you’re done towelling […]
