What happens when you give 6 designers a jean jacket and thousands of crystals?
The internet is full of denim hacks – from frayed fringe to razor slashes. But are any as stunning as these created by Canadian designers for a silent auction at tomorrow night’s Mad Hot Ballet Gala? (I swear I would say that even if I weren’t the co-chair for this annual fundraiser for the National […]

Is wearable technology really the next big thing? We explore fashion’s whole new world
Fashion loves buzzwords. From arm party to It girl, these trendy terms infiltrate our minds, our Twitter feeds and our cocktail banter. But one in particular was light years ahead of them […]

Oscars 2015: About last night’s statement necklace trend

Stars took last night’s red carpet by storm, cementing many of the season’s already-in-motion trends. But a new one, the statement necklace, also carved its place in style history, with high profile […]

All the angles on Rihanna’s barely there CFDA outfit
All the angles on Rihanna’s CFDA outfit »
See all of Rihanna’s recent looks »If you had any doubts that Rihanna is the fashion goddess of our time, look no further than last night’s CFDA Awards, where she went badder than ever in a barely there fishnet dress embellished with over 216,000 Swarovski crystals to accept the award for Fashion Icon of the Year. The outfit was no a doubt a big “eff you” to Instagram, who shut down her account last month after she posted a topless photo of herself on the cover of French fashion mag Lui. It was also a pretty ballin’ Sally Bowles moment, if Sally Bowles was a Never Nude flapper, ready for yet another closeup. “Fashion has always been my defense mechanism,” she said, during her acceptance speech. It’s been that for all of us fashion kids too, which is just one of the millions of reasons we love Rihanna so.
Some may see Rihanna’s CFDA outfit as just another in her near-flawless run of fashion moments, but what’s just one small step for BadGalRiri is one giant leap for fashion kind. This glittering, sugar-coated message to the Instagram establishment is in effect the ultimate slut shaming defence. (Stepping out in a faux fur stole emblazoned with the word “fear” is another brilliant one.)

Introducing Gwen Stefani by OPI: From Swarovski nail art to a new mirror-finish polish, all the details on this collab
See all the Gwen Stefani by OPI nail polish shades »
When we think of Gwen Stefani’s signature style a few things come to mind: platinum hair, a midriff-baring top and, of course, red lips! Now, thanks to OPI, the musician’s covetable style is being bottled up for an exclusive nail polish collaboration. The seven-piece Gwen Stefani by OPI collection will hit shelves in January 2014 and features a number of finishes that are new to OPI, as well as a super-exclusive nail art set.
“Over & Over A-Gwen”—a luscious red that no doubt took inspiration from Stefani’s go-to lipstick shade—will be paired with Swarovski black crystals and metallic studs in a boxed set that’s sure to be on every nail art fan’s must-have list. (Even better, it will sell for less than $20!) As for the new polish finishes, “Push and Shove” may just rival the nail art in terms of flashiness. It’s a chrome polish with a mirror-like finish, but unlike other chrome polishes, “Push and Shove” requires a special base coat (named “Lay Down That Base”) to ensure maximum reflection. We cannot wait to see swatches of this high-shine colour in action.
