Stuart Weitzman reinvents the iconic 5050 riding boot with a capsule collection for Gilt.com

It’s been 20 years since the iconic 5050 riding boot from Stuart Weitzman hit the scene and garnered a cult-like following. To celebrate this milestone, the designer partnered with Gilt.com and created a capsule collection of 20 styles of 5050 boot to be sold over 20 days on the exclusive site.
To kick off the digital pop-up shop and toast the boot’s anniversary, a star-studded party was thrown last Wednesday in New York City. Notable names like Olivia Palermo, Padma Lakshmi and Miranda Kerr were decked out in their favourite 5050 boots and guests were treated to a display of the 20 exclusive styles, all available to try on. Stuart Weitzman sprinkled a little dazzle on the celebration by introducing a custom crafted boot, The Safari, made up of 25,000 Swarovski crystals hand-set in a leopard pattern.
But back to the online sale! Launched on October 17, the Gilt.com collection includes styles that boot lovers have come to expect, such as black patent and nappa leather. There are also seven suede finishes available, ranging from neutral hues like brown and taupe, to rich jewel tones including forest-green, blue and purple. Stuart Weitzman has also introduced new textures and prints, including a cognac-coloured leopard print, black and white zebra and an embellished crystal snake pattern. While the 5050 boot ranges from $598 and up, the aforementioned Swarovski-set Safari pair comes at the ultimate splurge of $10,000.

Kate Winslet vs. Melissa George: Who did pregnant best on the TIFF 2013 red carpet?
See the pregnancy red carpet looks up close »
While the royal baby bump watch has sadly come to an end number of A-list stars have been seen flaunting their motherhood on the red carpet including two glowing mothers-to-be Kate Winslet and Melissa George at TIFF 2013 this past week.
Last Saturday, Kate Winslet arrived on the red carpet for the premiere of her film Labor Day looking absolutely radiant in a black floor-length gown by Jenny Packham. The bespoke dress featured a deep V-neckline and an empire waist with a Swarovski embellishment at the centre—a perfect showcase for a growing tummy. Winslet chose to keep her accessories at a minimum with a metallic box clutch, forest green pointed-toe heels and subtle silver and diamond jewellery. With a healthy, natural glow of an expecting mother-to-be, a no-fuss chignon with side-swept bangs and coral pink lips finished off her graceful red carpet look.

Katy Perry vs. Rachel Bilson: Who wore cobalt blue best on the red carpet?
See the cobalt blue looks up close »
While summer cocktails keep us cool on the almost dog days of summer, cobalt blue trend is doing the same on the red carpet. The intoxicating shade has become quite a favourite this year, with Reese Witherspoon, Taylor Swift and Jessica Chastain counted amongst its A-list fans.
Conveniently for Katy Perry, cobalt blue also happens to be the favourite shade of The Smurfs, whose second animated film Smurfs 2 co-stars the singer herself. To promote the film, Perry’s been wearing nothing but the shade, which we think is pretty awesome. Dressed in head-toe-blue at the Los Angeles premiere over the weekend, Perry wore a dress by Tadashi Shoji from the Fall 2013 collection. With floral appliques on the bodice, the sleeveless dress also features a small bow belt and leather pleated skirt that falls past the knees. Matching her outfit, the songstress adds a pair of blue heels with a black bow accent by Pedro Garcia and sapphire crystal earrings by Swarovski. She finished off her look with pink lips, a matching pink manicure and with her hair styled in classic sixties waves.

New must-have accessory alert! Sneak a peek at the Maison Martin Margiela and Swarovski collab
If you were following last week’s couture shows in Paris, chances are high that you noticed the embellished head masks donned by models on the runway at Maison Martin Margiela. Indeed, the high fashion face armor was so intriguing that it almost distracted us from the slew of crystal pendants and cuffs subtly wrapped around the arms of the couture-clad models. The understated display was a first peek at the Crystalactite collection, the product of a new design alliance between Maison Martin Margiela and Swarovski.

The Cannes Film Festival is not only an event to premiere new films, it’s also a time to celebrate the timeless films. In commemoration of Cleopatra’s 50th anniversary, many stars, including Jessica Chastain and Milla Jovovich, attended a special edition screening of this classic film last night. Though the two starlets dressed in very different looks (dark versus light, lots of skin versus completely covered), both of these ladies bewitched every single camera in their own glamorous way.
Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain may have been the luckiest girl on the Cannes red carpet. The co-host of the Cleopatra screening donned a Bulgari diamond and sapphire necklace and a matching ring that was given to Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton as a token of his love. Looking every bit as regal, Chastain allowed her exquisite jewellery to take the spotlight and opted for a simple, long sleeve ivory Versace gown from the Spring 2013 collection, paired with nude platform heels. With finger waves and side-swept hair, Chastain dazzled the red carpet with her natural beauty.

Cannes 2013: Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman and more top our best Cannes red carpet looks
See all the Cannes 2013 red carpet photos »
The 66th annual Cannes Film Festival is underway and the never-ending parade of red carpet dresses certainly makes it one of the top sartorial events of the year. As a twelve-day film festival that hosts multiple parties, photo calls and premieres each day, A-list stars and international icons bringing their best looks to the French Riviera. To help keep track, we’re rounding up the top looks from the Cannes 2013 red carpet so far—and we’ll keep adding more as the festival continues.
Arguably the most anticipated movie of the year, The Great Gatsby, had its European premiere at Cannes last week—and the red carpet was filled with outfits just as glamourous as the film itself, including Cara Delevingne’s sultry Burberry laced ensemble and Carey Mulligan’s Dior Couture gown.
Meanwhile, Emma Watson turned heads last week at the premiere of her latest film, The Bling Ring, in a stunning Chanel gown. Earlier in the day, the wizard-turned-fame-obsessed-teen (that is, on screen!) showed off an equally stunning burgundy ensemble by Christopher Kane.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show: Sarah Casselman revisits her angel face time with Cara Delevingne, Hilary Rhoda and more

See our 10 Victoria’s Secret fashion show insider moments »Spellbinding spaces, colourful creations, famous front-row fixtures and a parade of beautiful peacocks—fashion shows are always a spectacle, but when it comes to the greatest show on earth, Victoria’s Secret is the hottest ticket in town. This year, the mega lingerie chain’s 17th show opened with a circus-themed act that included acrobats, stilt dancers and a sword swallower. The Angels, led by sexy ringleader Adriana Lima, donned velvet trapeze-artist corsets, balloon wings, tiger jackets and snake-charmer body pieces as they whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Despite the fact that this production took place in New York one week after Hurricane Sandy unleashed her wrath on the East Coast, and the same day as the first nor’easter storm of the season, the VS team managed to pull off their spectacular feats without any noticeable snafus. When there are 38 models—and 38 travel schedules—to coordinate; 80 stage hands on call; 28 sets of couture-worthy wings feverishly being finished; 2,154 guests to be seated; Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and Rihanna performing; a prime time slot on CBS booked, with TV viewers from 185 countries; and millions of dollars on the line, it’s clear the show must go on.
Backstage, the energy is palpable as the Angels—I spy Doutzen, Candice, Alessandra, Behati and Miranda—are transformed into heavenly creatures by a glam squad (22 hairstylists, 18 makeup artists and seven manicurists) headed up by hair whiz Orlando Pita and makeup maestro Tom Pecheux. All of the one-name genetic wonders are clad in pink satin VS robes sprinkled with Swarovski crystals, and pink flip-flops. Veteran Angel Doutzen Kroes, a five-time VS walker, admits she still gets nervous, while newbie Cara Delevingne, a 20-year-old British ready-to-wear model and the star of Burberry’s fall campaign, hams it up during her interviews, making funny faces and dropping the occasional F-bomb, before stepping out onto the glittery VS runway for the first time. “It’s a completely different deal,” she says, referring to the difference between her regular modelling jobs and this extravaganza. “I’m not going to say no to a Victoria’s Secret show. They’re sexy women and I want to be one of them.” Judging by the outfit she is slated to wear in the “Pink Is Us” set—a striped latex roller-girl dress (“I’ll be lubed up to the max”)—I’d say mission accomplished.

They said/We said: Could Blue Ivy Carter be the next fashion mogul?
Blue Ivy Carter was destined for greatness when she was a mere twinkle in Jay-Z’s eye, but no one expected she’d become a fashion mogul less than a month after her birth.
The couple has filed an application to trademark their offspring’s name (the real name, though we’d prefer Babeyoncé) to create a line of fancy baby gear including strollers, diaper bags, and cosmetics—because even babies need makeup nowadays.
Of course, there is the chance that the couple intends to protect the little one’s name. Already, the responsible, tabloid-reading workers at the trademark office have shut down two requests for the names “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” and “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV”—not to mention the new strain of marijuana or countless martinis named after the not-yet-one-month-old hip-hop princess.
No wonder the newest generation of celebrities is turning into Lindsay Lohan act-a-likes! Maybe the couple has the purest of intentions, but considering that Hova already exploited his kid by including a snippet of her cry in his new track “Glory,” we’re inclined to believe some Swarovski-encrusted Blue Ivy strollers are in our future.

TFW dairy: Micalla brings glitz, glamour, and Swarovski
By Jessica Borchiver
For her Spring 2012 jewellery collection show, Micalla designer Camilla Jorgensen brought on the glitz and glamour. The larger-than-life pieces sparkled with Swarovski crystals, which had obvious undertones of: “Look at me!” The oversized, chunky, and bedazzling pieces may not be your everyday jewellery, yet the models could have easily persuaded us otherwise. However, there was one notable concern—I had to constantly remind myself that these pieces were designed for spring, not for winter. A heavy necklace embellished with frost-like crystals seemed fit for a snow queen, and the lack of bright colours left me confused. These winterized pieces seemed better suited for women accessorizing for the Christmas holidays or a New Year’s bash.

PFW diary: All things sparkle-y at Delfina Delettrez and Swarovski
It wouldn’t be Paris fashion week without a few sparklers thrown into the mix.
First up: Delfina Delettrez. This jewellery designer is a fourth generation Fendi (yes, that Fendi) woman. She’s the daughter of Silvia Venturini Fendi—the accessories director at this famous luxury house—and Bernard Delettrez, the French jeweler. (Clearly, this French darling has quite the sparkling lineage.) Family jewels aside, Delettrez has her own eponymous line of couture-worthy baubles (many are one-of-a-kind) that blends goth with modern. From sinister-looking skulls to whimsical creatures (a few seasons back there was a pig ring that caused a few snorts), these fantastical creations are a feast for the eyes. Her current collection was showcased on wigs that rival Marge Simpson’s signature towering ‘do. Paging, Nicki Minaj!

SNP’s word of the day: Chiaroscuro
Word: Chiaroscuro
Meaning: In art, the use of contrast―light versus shadow―to create depth in a two-dimensional work.
Usage: “We’re each of us our own chiaroscuro, our own bit of illusion trying to emerge into something solid, something real.” ― Libba Bray. I’ve never read anything she’s written, but I love this quote.
