Sarah Jessica Parker charms the crowd at The Bay
Photography by Tom Sandler/Courtesy of HBC Flanked suited-up security guards, the entrance to the new Halston Heritage area at the Bay Queen Street was buzzing yesterday evening. Anxiously awaiting Sarah Jessica Parker, the new president and chief creative officer of Halston, were media types, socialites, designers (a dapper looking Wayne Clark was there), devoted Room shoppers and even political types, specifically the prime minister’s wife, Laureen Harper.

Olympic style: Hockey fans, curling moms and Wayne Gretzky
Designer Tu Ly strikes a pose with The Great One Sports fans might frown on fashionistas for the time and money we spend on our appearance. But guess who has joined the party? The stadiums here in Vancouver are packed with fans – from infants to grannies – who are wearing their hearts on their sleeves, sometimes literally.

Fashion news: McQueen’s maple leaf scarf, Alexander Wang show to stream in Times Square and SJP in TO
A limited edition scarf by Alexander McQueen has been selling quickly at Holt Renfrew. The $450 scarf featured McQueen’s signature skulls adorned in red maple leaves—a tribute to the 2010 Olympics. In a ghoulish bit of profiteering, someone is selling one of the scarves–purchased just yesterday–for $2,000 on Kijiji. [The Globe and Mail]
Sarah Jessica Parker is heading to Toronto in her official capacity as Halston president and chief creative officer, here for a party at The Room, the high-end section of the Bay’s Queen Street location. [Toronto Life]
Alexander Wang will be live streaming his Fall 2010 show to a billboard in Times Square. If you’re not in New York or don’t want to stand in the cold, you can also watch the stream on SHOWstudio.com tomorrow at 5 p.m. [WWD]

Stocking up at the Bay’s Olympics superstore
I’ve been on the Olympics bandwagon since we landed the bid in 2003, but now that I’ve been seeing the official team apparel all over Vancouver, I decided it was about time I headed to the Olympics superstore at the Bay downtown (674 Granville St., 604-681-6211, hbc.com) to pick up my own pieces. After my […]

The Bay makes a Blanket Statement with ten Canadian designers
Comrags' take on the Bay's point blanket coat Back in October, we told you about the Bay’s new line of Canadiana–The Hudson’s Bay Company Collection–the brings canoes, paddles and point blankets together with collaborations with Canadian fashion names such as Pink Tartan, Harricana and Virginia Johnson. The line launched Tuesday night at a packed cocktail party where guests noshed on de rigueur nouveau comfort food–grilled cheese sandwiches with homemade ketchup, potatoes with bison tartare and maple syrup poured over freezer-made snow. The big attraction of the evening was the official unveiling of ten one-of-a-kind coats–together dubbed The Blanket Statement–that the Bay commissioned from a group of Canadian designers who played with the iconic point blanket. Topshop may be headed to the Bay
Christopher Kane for Topshop British fast-fashion chain Topshop may be part of the Bay’s renaissance, which has included a lavishly revamped The Room at the department store’s Toronto Queen Street location, and a deal to create the official Vancouver 2010 Olympics merch. Though rumours (or just wishful thinking on the part of the local fashion population) of a possible partnership have been around for a while, HBC CEO Jeff Sherman confirmed to ROB Magazine that his company is in talks with Topshop to put their boutiques in Bay stores. Say Sherman:

Bay watch: The Canadian icon reimagined
We went over to the Bay Queen Street earlier today to check out the newly revamped The Room. Actually, revamped is too soft a term for the metamorphosis of the Bay flagship’s home for runway wear–it’s truly a sight to behold. We’ll have pictures tomorrow, but in the meantime, we wanted to show you another of the company’s cool projects: the Hudson’s Bay Company collection. The new line has everything from canoes to tees and includes collaborations with some Canadian designers–striped cardies from by Pink Tartan, recycled fur handbags by Harricana’s Mariouche Gagné and one-of-a-kind, not-for-sale coats from the likes of Jeremy Laing, Erdem (see it on our cover!), Smythe and Todd Lynn.

Anna’s ’90s casual look, Olivia Palermo launches jewellery line, Annie Leibovitz designs for Vuitton
Yes it’s true, even Anna Wintour made the same horrendous fashion faux pas of the early ’90s as everyone else: she rocked embroidered sweatshirts paired with pink leggings and ballet flats. I also spy an additional sweater tied around Anna’s waist. Shameful, but we all went there, didn’t we? [Huffington Post]
