TIFF red carpet: Megan Fox, Mickey Rourke and Kelly Lynch at Passion Play
Mickey Rourke and Megan Fox hit the red carpet last night for the premiere of Mitch Glazer’s Passion Play. Fox, who arrived with new husband Brian Austin Green, wore a simple twisted frock. Co-stars Bill Murray and Kelly Lynch, in a sequins-and-feathers confection, also made a appearance. Click the images below to see pics from […]

TIFF party pics: Emily Hampshire, Rachel Blanchard, and Juliette Lewis in emerald Dolce at the Alliance bash
Last night Alliance hosted a bash for Toronto industry insiders and visiting talent to sling back a couple of cocktails under the shadow of the appropriately shiny Scotia Bank tower.
Who did we see? There were rumours of Clive Owen and David Schwimmer, but alas, no. We did however get Juliette Lewis, who’s in town supporting Conviction with Hilary Swank. You could tell she was there as an actress, rather than rock star by her teeny tiny emerald green Dolce & Gabbana. She gushed to red carpet reporters about loving TIFF for how laid back it is. Yeah, we get that a lot.

TIFF red carpet: Milla Jovovich, Edward Norton and Robert De Niro at the Stone premiere
Milla Jovovich took to the red carpet at the Visa Screening Room last night for the screening of John Curran’s Stone at the Toronto International Film Festival. Jovovich, wearing a perforated leather dress and massive bib necklace, was joined by co-stars Edward Norton, Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy. Swiss actress Julie Ordon, in Toronto […]

TIFF buzz: Celeb sightings, hoser style and more reasons to love Jon Hamm
T’was tweeted: “Just saw David Suzuki in the Intercon Hotel. I swear he exudes a kind of environmental-goodness smell. Like pine, only brainier.” [@ChrisKnightFilm]

TIFF parties: Absolut’s parkade bash was light on Hollywood types, but heavy on golf cart rides
Rooftop parties really work better when it isn’t freezing, but the folks at Absolut, despite being able to project art installations onto neighbouring office towers, just can’t predict the weather. The young and hip gathered on the rooftop of a downtown parkade last night for the vodka brand’s TIFF fete. The art projections, by the way, were part of Canadian visual artists Kellen Hatanaka and Beside Herself‘s task to transform a plain ole rooftop into a full-fledged art party.

TIFF party pics: We talk accessories with actress Emily Hampshire at the RED party
It was a big night for Canada. In one part of town, cliché-spitting Canadiana pirouetted on the ice at the premiere of Score: A Hockey Musical. Meanwhile a little uptown, the regiment of well-heeled Canucks congregated for a quieter–but equally proud–celebration of Canadian imagery for RED, a preview exhibition of twelve images from the New York Times Canadian Photo Archive.
Caitlin Cronenberg, photographer and daughter of film auteur David Cronenberg, made her curatorial debut for the exhibit, which was held at the Toro After Dark space. The daunting task required Cronenberg to look through thousands of archive photographs to select twelve to display. The younger Cronenberg based her decisions on emotional response and the stories they tell. “These photos are news stories and it’s the stories that make them special,” she said.

TIFF red carpet: Olivia Newton-John, Nelly Furtado and newcomer Allie MacDonald at the premiere of Score: A Hockey Musical
The Toronto International Film Festival opened last night with a decidedly Canadian theme. The gala screening was for Score: A Hockey Musical, so a fully Canuck band of celebs were in attendance–George Strombolopolous, who played a hockey announcer, Nelly Furtado, who yelled from the stands as a streak-haired puck bunny and Walter Gretzky, who played […]

Q&A: ETalk’s Tanya Kim talks TIFF essentials, best dressed and holding hands with Brad Pitt
When skimming through TIFF coverage on most mediums, what you can’t see is the dark circles under the reporters’ eyes, caffeine stained teeth and, depending on what you’re reading, hints of a champagne hangover. Red carpet reporters like ETalk‘s Tanya Kim are on camera all the time, so they don’t have the luxury of invisibility. We had a chance to catch up with her over email on how she keeps it fresh during TIFF, who she’s excited to interview and her red carpet wardrobe.
What will you be doing this year for the festival? “I will be hosting Etalk every day, as well as interviewing stars when they visit our Joe Fresh Style etalk Celebrity Interview Lounge at the Intercontinental Hotel, catching up with celebs at their premieres and galas, BBMing fans and curiosity seekers, tweeting, and slipping in some “off duty” fun at various parties if there’s time (and energy!)” left over.

TIFF buzz: Olivia Newton-John spotted, see the fest’s new home, and someone is impersonating Joaquin Phoenix
Even celebrity shutterbugs like George Pimentel, who spends more time on the red carpet than off, have shown their excitement about the impending migration of a-listers. Pimentel recently gushed about Natalie Portman, who will be in town for her newest darkest flick Black Swan, that she is “Bar none the most beautiful young actress in the business.” [Toronto Life]
