Every year at the film festival, Swarovski hosts a gifting and lending suite where talent can come in, take a look around and borrow some ice for the red carpet. This year, the items in the lounge from the fall collection had a distinct ice queen feel to them – think Anne Hathaway as the white queen in Alice in Wonderland, or better yet, Tilda Swinton as the White Witch in The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe.

During this year’s TIFF, the word we read almost as often as “red carpet” or “Martin Sheen” was “Resort,” as in resort collections. Indeed, no designer dominated the premieres and parties, but these collections certainly did, popping up on nearly every major red carpet. Our favourite was Carey Mulligan‘s celestial Christopher Kane dress, but Emma Stone (in Stella McCartney), Rebecca Hall and Jennifer Connelly (both in YSL) also chose looks from this “season” (can we call it that?). Freida Pinto wins for most resort-filled TIFF wardrobe, trotting out Alexander McQueen for the You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger premiere, an aqua Narciso Rodriguez for the presser and a fuchsia leopard-print Marchesa for the Miral party.

Of the Ryans floating around at TIFF this year, the vastly superior one (in our humble opinion) is Ryan Gosling, who showed up last night for the Canadian premiere of Blue Valentine. Malin Akerman sported this shiny red J.Mendel gown to the premiere of The Bang Bang Club, in which she stars opposite Ryan Philippe. The colour is lovely, especially with all the variations in tone, but the whole things seems too stiff and shiny. Plus there’s something about the straps and the side panels that makes us think of the X-Men, which Akerman wasn’t in, but nevertheless, we can’t stop thinking about when we look at this dress.

After trolling through the Yorkville and King West neighbourhoods, it was a delightful refresher to attend a party at a venue I actually enjoy. Last night at the Horseshoe Tavern, the folks from the film Janie Jones had themselves a little soiree, where cast member Abigail Breslin even got up on stage.

We’ve got another hot battle on our hands today on Who Wore it Best?: Jumpsuit edition. Rebecca Hall is back for another round of judgment on her red YSL number, but this time we’re having her face off against Rachel Weisz, who wore a creamy vintage jumpsuit to last night’s premiere of The Whistleblower. Does Hall’s look (which, for the record, we liked–ignoring the somewhat ill-fitting bustier top) fare better here, or does Weisz’s stab at relaxed glam come out on top?
