For those who remember dressing up to go see The Backstreet Boys because obviously they’d scoop you out from the crowd just to compliment your outfit, you’ll understand the supreme need for fans to dress up for Beyoncé and Jay-Z. The duo’s co-billed On The Run tour hit Toronto last night and as predicted, it was epic. Even with the dueling Lady Gaga concert next door at the ACC, the city’s (Skydome) Rogers Centre was ablaze with fans styled to the nines in #Flawless merch and Beyoncé-inspired outfits. World Pride Week 2014 is officially over and we’re missing it already. The 10-day-long event was the biggest one yet, and of course, the week came to a close with Sunday’s epic parade, which saw its fair share of water guns, rainbow flags and incredible costumes. The delightfully sun-drenched parade involved over 12,000 participants this year (more than double the number from 2013’s closing event!).

Those with a sunglasses problem might want to steer clear of Toronto’s new optical candy store—Cutler and Gross might just make you an addict. The decades old British brand has landed on Queen Street West, opening its latest instalment of bright popping eyewear to some serious cool kid fanfare at a party last week. Hosted by The Coveteur’s Jake Rosenberg and Stephanie Mark, the fête saw eyewear enthusiasts like blogger Anita Clarke and the Globe and Mail’s Odessa Paloma Parker throwing some (literal) shade, aided and abetted by Cutler and Gross design director Marie Wilkinson, who flew in for the occasion from London.

It’s a good thing the party was limited to a few hours. Each guest could have easily spent all day long trying on each and every one of the store’s 1,200 models, which include the brand’s quirky collaborations with labels like Giles, Alberta Ferretti and Maison Martin Margiela. Festival season had its official Canadian start this weekend, as the second annual Field Trip music festival hit Toronto with a series of cacophonous bangs. Run by indie label Arts & Crafts, the two-day festival brought together homegrown darlings and international favourites like Interpol, The Kills, Austra, Washed Out, Cvrches and The Constantines. As is a now two-year tradition, local gods Broken Social Scene closed out the weekend with a 46-person set, as the crowd didn’t let the rain spoil the lively mood.

In what had to be the most perfect weather day of the year so far, Saturday’s almost 30 degree high had festivalgoers making use of the skin-baring assets of shorty short jorts, crop tops (with this season’s update: the thin strap) and protective oversized hats. In stark contrast, Sunday’s drizzle had attendees piling on the waterproof layers and creative makeshift ponchos out of colourful woven blankets.

Toronto’s annual arty blowout is happening this Thursday, which means that the city’s partygoers are in serious prep mode. Even for those who don’t circulate often, Power Ball is a big deal. Every year, the Power Plant comes alive with installations, open bars and flashbulbs. As such, you can imagine the importance placed on wardrobing. Is there a bigger bridal brand than Kleinfeld? Last night, to celebrate the Say Yes To The Dress juggernaut’s debut at Hudson’s Bay in Toronto, a lavish cocktail party took over all 20,000 square feet of the just-opened bridal salon. The space, with white-washed floors and vaulted ceiling could easily pass as a wedding venue itself (there’s even a small patio space for post-saying-yes cocktails!)—save for the dozens of dresses lining the walls. But what’s on display is just a sample of how much Kleinfeld has to offer: behind the scenes, there’s over 600 gowns to choose from, with more than 50 brands on the roster.

Spring sorta sprung this weekend and for a hot second it seemed like every single one of Toronto’s 2.6 million inhabitants was outdoors celebrating the warm weather’s return. Amongst the stacked locales, the west end’s Trinity Bellwoods Park was abloom with hip kids doing hip things like biking, riskily park drinking and just maxing on the sun’s rays in their finest springtime attire. The sun’s been out for two days straight, temperatures are sitting above freezing and there’s a steady melt occurring, ridding us of any evidence that the last five months brought us the worst winter ever. So we’re calling it: Spring is here! But if you’re still feeling cautiously optimistic about the spring transition, let our newest batch of street style photos convince you. Photographer Jenna Marie Wakani was out and about in Toronto’s Kensington Market this weekend and caught up with some of the city’s best dressed shoppers. True to spring transition dressing, layers were key—but unlike the blizzard-proof wears we saw during fashion week, coats were left open, scarves were worn for style rather than protection and flashes of bare skin were abound.

In an era when runway show livestreams, tweets from the front row and instant backstage beauty coverage is considered all part of fashion week, anyone with a good internet connection can feel like they’re in the tents, experiencing it first hand. Toronto is a hotbed for international retailers. That, and international retailer rumours. From the real (Nordstrom) to the still TBD (Bloomingdales), there always seems to be something to talk about. While we don’t like to pander to gossip and industry rumblings (or maybe we do), this latest rumour is too good to ignore. Japanese retailer Uniqlo is apparently in serious talks with Canadian retailers in an attempt to bring their famous $79 cashmere sweaters to our very own Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
