The 18^th annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show, aka our equivalent of the Superbowl, went down in New York on Wednesday. As we’ve come to expect, it was bigger and better than ever, boasting 40 models (the largest roster ever), performances by Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy and girl group Neon Jungle and the instalment of the $10 Million Fantasy Bra debuted by Angel Candice Swanepoel. 2013’s edition of the larger than life fashion show allowed for a crazy number of stats we’d love to see in one bejewelled infographic, but since it’s Friday, we’ll just list ‘em for you like so:

Spellbinding spaces, colourful creations, famous front-row fixtures and a parade of beautiful peacocks—fashion shows are always a spectacle, but when it comes to the greatest show on earth, Victoria’s Secret is the hottest ticket in town. This year, the mega lingerie chain’s 17th show opened with a circus-themed act that included acrobats, stilt dancers and a sword swallower. The Angels, led by sexy ringleader Adriana Lima, donned velvet trapeze-artist corsets, balloon wings, tiger jackets and snake-charmer body pieces as they whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Despite the fact that this production took place in New York one week after Hurricane Sandy unleashed her wrath on the East Coast, and the same day as the first nor’easter storm of the season, the VS team managed to pull off their spectacular feats without any noticeable snafus. When there are 38 models—and 38 travel schedules—to coordinate; 80 stage hands on call; 28 sets of couture-worthy wings feverishly being finished; 2,154 guests to be seated; Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and Rihanna performing; a prime time slot on CBS booked, with TV viewers from 185 countries; and millions of dollars on the line, it’s clear the show must go on.

Backstage, the energy is palpable as the Angels—I spy Doutzen, Candice, Alessandra, Behati and Miranda—are transformed into heavenly creatures by a glam squad (22 hairstylists, 18 makeup artists and seven manicurists) headed up by hair whiz Orlando Pita and makeup maestro Tom Pecheux. All of the one-name genetic wonders are clad in pink satin VS robes sprinkled with Swarovski crystals, and pink flip-flops. Veteran Angel Doutzen Kroes, a five-time VS walker, admits she still gets nervous, while newbie Cara Delevingne, a 20-year-old British ready-to-wear model and the star of Burberry’s fall campaign, hams it up during her interviews, making funny faces and dropping the occasional F-bomb, before stepping out onto the glittery VS runway for the first time. “It’s a completely different deal,” she says, referring to the difference between her regular modelling jobs and this extravaganza. “I’m not going to say no to a Victoria’s Secret show. They’re sexy women and I want to be one of them.” Judging by the outfit she is slated to wear in the “Pink Is Us” set—a striped latex roller-girl dress (“I’ll be lubed up to the max”)—I’d say mission accomplished.

The sexiest show on earth, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, will be televised tonight and although many will be tuning in to see the elaborate costumes, fancy lingerie and performances from Rihanna and Justin Bieber, we can’t forget about the beauty. After all, while a million-dollar bra is hard to come by, anyone can try their hand at the hair and makeup done on the Victoria’s Secret Angels. Even better, we have the complete low-down on how to achieve both.

Makeup artist Tom Pecheux gave Victoria’s Secret models such as Miranda Kerr and Doutzen Kroes a look that featured sultry brown eyes, glossy, barely-tinted lips and earthy cheeks. And given just how much skin is on display, the Angels’ bodies were given a sun kissed glow with help from the brand’s Beach Sexy line of bronzers and self-tanners.

Glitter, gloss, wings, 6-inch heels, plenty of pink, big, sexy hair and legs that go on for days—the Victoria’s Secret Angels know how to give good glam. Hours before the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show began, we headed backstage amidst clouds of hairspray, racks of Swarovski-encrusted pink satin Victoria’s Secret robes and throngs of editors/bloggers/photographers to get the inside scoop from the heavenly ones (The jitters! The diets! The costumes!). Pre-show, Twitter was a-buzz with news of Karlie Kloss’s new ‘do but post-show it was all about her controversial Native American-inspired costume, which subsequently will be pulled from the televised show on December 4th. From Justin Bieber to Bruno Mars to mega-babe Rihanna, the musical performances didn’t disappoint, nor did the star-studded front row which included Alexander Wang, 30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden, Debbie Harry, members of Kings of Leon , Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr and Vanessa Hudgens and her boyfriend Austin Butler. As if the prospect of watching supermodels like Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio model high-fashion lingerie wasn’t enough to get us to tune in to the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, it was just announced that Rihanna is going to be involved.

Today the singer revealed the news on her Facebook page that she will be performing at the annual event, which will be televised on December 4. The spectacle has seen past performances from the likes of Justin Timberlake and the Spice Girls, as well as Rihanna’s friends Kanye West and Jay-Z. Rihanna—who has been quite busy lately, from closing the Paralympics to working on her seventh (!!) album—will sing two songs at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, including her new single “Diamonds.” She will also be joined by two other acts, one of which is some guy named Justin Bieber. No big deal.

Model Kate Upton, with her healthy proportions and self-made rise to fame (read: YouTube celebrity), has been making waves ever since being discovered by IMG Models. But now it’s her cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue (can that even be called a swimsuit?) that has people talking—especially Sophia Neophitou.
