Fashion news: Superhero fashion in Paris, RIP Tyra Show and the Kaiser wants it all

image of Karl Lagerfeld Green Lantern gloves via Racked Happy birthday to Batman, Superman, Catwoman, et al. Parisian boutique Colette is celebrating DC Comics‘ 75th anniversary with a superhero-inspired collection by the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin and Thierry Larsly. Suffice to say this isn’t tacky paraphernalia, more like sexy Catwoman boots (Roger Vivier) and bejeweled leather gloves (Lagerfeld) a la Green Lantern. [Racked]
Patricia Field, the costume director of a certain monstrous sequel has just released a swimwear collection. Be generous with the sunblock to avoid some crazy tan lines. [The Cut]

Fashion news: Robin Kay speaks out about the Holts FWeek breakfast [updated], Canadians are safe shoppers and Shu Uemura to cease U.S. operations
Allegations made by models of Terry Richardson‘s inappropriate behaviour haven’t seemed to effect his career or his reputation, as the photographer was back to work, shooting model Doutzen Kroes for Vogue in Miami yesterday. [Vogue UK]
FDCC prez Robin Kay spoke out at yesterday’s Holt Renfrew‘s media breakfast, which showcased work from five Canadian designers who don’t show at LG Fashion Week. (Watch for our coverage of the event later today.) Holts brought in Vogue writer Mark Holgate, who will not be attending the main event at the Allstream Centre [UPDATE: Mark Holgate attended the IZMA show on Sunday night with Holt Renfrew’s communications director, Moira Wright.] Kay told the Toronto Star: “Holt Renfrew is a sponsor – with their largesse they should have made a point of bringing that gentleman to the site to see that we are a fashion week and to see designers he may not have heard of. That’s a sponsor’s duty and responsibility.” For Holts’ part, their fashion VP Barbara Atkin said: ““[Bringing these designers to fashion week] is something we’ve talked about and we are in discussions about.” [Toronto Star, via Toronto Life]
With J.Crew scouting locations and Victoria’s Secret‘s plans to open four north-of-the-49th stores, Canada has become the ‘it’ place for retailers looking to open international stores–because we’re nearby and not that exotic, apparently. Says the Wall Street Journal: “Canadians tend to be slower, steadier shoppers than Americans, with a preference for higher-quality goods and more interest in outdoor looks.” Gotta love the stereotypes, eh. Karl Lagerfeld has an interesting theory about porn’s effect on crime rates. He told Bruce LaBruce in Vice: “Frustration is the mother of crime, and so there would be much more crime without prostitutes and porn movies…[but] I personally only like high-class escorts. I don’t like sleeping with people I really love. I don’t want to sleep with them because sex cannot last, but affection can last forever. I think this is healthy. And for the way the rich live, this is possible. But the other world, I think they need porn.” [Vogue UK]

Fashion news: Hamish Bowles goes camping, Angelina Jolie may star in Gucci film, and Adriana Lima tries acting

Photo via Style.com Vogue’s European Editor at Large Hamish Bowles spent some time roughing it in the country, reluctantly prepping a piece for Vogue’s environment issue. The fashion journalist ate what he thought was bear feces–but turned out to be only dates–a prank concocted by Hamish’s scout leader. [Vogue]
Woody Allen’s latest muse is Adriana Lima, whom Allen is said to be writing into his next screenplay. HERMÈS Fall 2009. Photography by Peter Stigter In an interview with GNT Fashion in her native Brazil, Raquel Zimmermann chats about her decade-long fashion career, her love for Vogue’s Grace Coddington and how Karl Lagerfeld is actually a “sweet, friendly, funny person.” The clip is worth watching for the eye candy alone–delicious editorials and video evidence of Zimmermann’s skills as a runway stalker. Video: Grace Coddington vs. giant scarves in The September Issue
Two more clips from The September Issue are making the rounds. The premiere is tonight at the MoMA in New York, but it won’t make it to a theatre near (some of) you until October. The first clip shows some light Sienna Miller hair drama–the blonde bobbed wig they were using to cover her lank hair didn’t really work out, leading to the top knot that eventually made the shot. The second clip features Grace Coddington and her wild hair tending to Raquel Zimmermann, Coco Rocha and some gigantic knits. (Remember those big orange scarves from Giles?)
Enticingly brief clips after the jump.

Suddenly Iris Strubegger

From Valentino's Fall 2009 campaign When I saw this Fall 2009 Valentino ad recently, my first thought was, Wow Kristen McMenamy has some great legs. While I’m sure she does, the legs in question actually belong to Austrian model Iris Strubegger, who is suddenly popping up everywhere.
