As many designer-loving brides have already figured out, white wedding dresses are simply that: white dresses. (Actually, sometimes wedding dresses aren’t even white, but I digress.) And while there will always be legions of Say Yes to the Dress fans who dream of trying on elaborate confections in a bridal boutique, there is no rule that says a wedding dress must be created especially for the occasion (a.k.a. with a price tag that would make most bring up their breakfast). As such, searching for wedding dresses in unexpected places might just produce unexpected results. Case in point: Net-a-Porter‘s annual spring sale which started today and has a pretty epic selection of stunning white designer dresses that can easily double as wedding dresses. If you’ve been placing bets like we have on who’s going to design Angelina Jolie’s wedding dress, you better re-examine your choices. The actress is looking for a designer who is “not so obvious for designing wedding gowns”. The one she’s after? Rumor has it that it’s L’Wren Scott.

Scott, although not known for designing wedding gowns, is a regular go-to for celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker when they hit up red carpet events, and according to a “friend” of Jolie’s the designer is “the one who understands her body the most.”

Arguably the most fierce Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano, recently announced (via Twitter, how else?) that he has an upcoming bridal collaboration with U.S. retailer Nordstrom. The designer gave his followers a sneak peek of the first dress, and while it’s not exactly a “hot mess” it leaves us wanting more. It seems Siriano has traded in his signature volume and drama for a safe and—dare we say it—slightly boring creation. (Siriano has since deleted the tweet, but because nothing ever disappears from the internet, the picture remains!)

The news is somewhat ironic considering Project Runway host Heidi Klum confirmed her divorce from husband Seal this morning.

Our curiosities were uh, piqued last month when we saw the sneak peek of the Kim Kardashian­–inspired wedding gowns Vera Wang designed for budget bridal company David’s Bridal. In a move that brings multi-million dollar bridal fashion to the masses, Wang re-designed the three dresses she made for Kardashian’s wedding in September, and they’ll be sold for a mere fraction of the cost of the originals.
