Jamie Salé, natural beauty
Eight years ago, Jamie Salé and David Pelletier took Olympic gold for their long program in pairs figure skating—and here’s betting no one’s forgotten the scandal surrounding their medal. Now, though, they’re in Vancouver for the 2010 Games, and in between commentating on her sport for CTV, Salé sat down with me to discuss her new role as spokesperson for famed au naturel line, Burt’s Bees (burtsbees.ca).

Olympic-style celebrations at the Opus hotel
After meeting all their fans on Saturday at Holt Renfrew (holtrenfrew.com), Dean and Dan Caten headed to Opus hotel (opushotel.com), where the Dsquared designers hosted a cocktail party with M.A.C Cosmetics, whose makeup artists were responsible for all the brilliant looks on stage at the opening ceremony. Here, some of the lovely faces at the […]

Fashion news: Ralph Lauren angers patriotic fans, Wintour vs. Milan and a Gossip Girl clothing line
Ralph Lauren is getting an earful for putting his iconic polo logo on the U.S. Olympic athletes’ uniforms—instead of the American Flag. [NYP]
It turns out that it wasn’t designers who were up in arms over Anna Wintour missing their shows at Milan fashion week, but Wintour herself. The fashion legend reportedly asked that the fashion week be shortened to three days so that she could attend all the shows, causing a stir in the Italian fashion world. The city’s mayor made a statement, saying: “Nobody, not even if her name is Anna Wintour, can take the liberty to do and undo our fashion calendar.” [WWD]

Holts throws an Olympic bash for Dean and Dan
My first week covering the 2010 Winter Games for FASHION was filled with several fashionable appearances courtesy of Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared. First, there was their torch relay in North Van, and on Saturday, I met up with the twins again as they signed autographs at Holt Renfrew (holtrenfrew.com). A huge line awaited the boys (I’ve never seen so many people in the men’s department!), but they were gracious enough to give me a few minutes before meeting their fans.

Nelly Furtado, Nikki Yanofsky and Bryan Adams wear Dsquared at the opening ceremonies
Dean and Dan Caten, Toronto natives, ready-t0-wear designers and Olympic torch runners, also had a hand in last night’s opening ceremonies for the Vancouver Games. The pair designed the looks for all the celeb performers (save Ashley MacIsaac and K.D. Lang). The high point was certainly opera star Measha Brueggergosman, who sang the Olympic hymn […]

The free gift of yoga at the Olympics
My yoga instructor prefaces every class with a standard “this is not a competition” spiel, but honestly, given how enthusiastic we Vancouverites are about our downward dogs, I’m surprised it’s not an official Olympic sport.

Dsquared’s Dean and Dan Caten wore tuxedos for their torch run
The Olympic torch is officially in Vancouver! This morning, Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared ran it a distance of 300 meters each along Mount Seymour Parkway in North Van. Asked if they did any training to prepare for the run, Dean said he ran a bit on the treadmill, and Dan said he “ran […]

Tie one on: A low-key (and luxe) approach to Olympic pride
Most of the Olympics wear I’ve seen thus far has been bursting with country colours, stripes, or logos, which is why this more subdued scarf by Mount-Cashmere ($250, mountcashmere.com) is a refreshing alternative.

Vancouver: YEW serves up Olympic burgers, salads and a winners-only cocktail
It’s a no-brainer that ceremonies, celebrations and cocktails belong together, and there’s no better place downtown to get a little boozy than at YEW Restaurant + Bar at the Four Seasons Hotel (791 W. Georgia St., 604-689-9333, fourseasons.com/vancouver). A new Olympics-themed menu includes a meant-to-be-shared, one-pound of beef burger (plus fixings) and an Olympic Salad made with rings of grilled squid, anelli pasta, radish, leeks, and crispy shallots, all best supplemented by equally-festive cocktail concoctions.

Fashion news: Rodarte outfits the Olympics, MK and Ashley launch a denim line and Sammi “Sweetheart” might walk at Bryant Park
Surprise – Rodarte gets their own fashion show at the Olympics. The New York Times magazine asked Kate and Laura Mulleavy to design 13 outfits for athletes, including figure skaters, a ski jumper and snowboarders. Figure skater Johnny Weir will be decked out in head-to-toe crocheted Rodarte; we’re curious to see what the athletes will be wearing as they compete outdoors. [Racked]
Adding to their whirlwind month, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have launched a new denim line, Textile Elizabeth and James. Launching in March, the three-jean collection is ‘70s inspired, both in style and name: there’s the Hendrix, the Stevie and the Joni, all featuring a hippie twist, be it through a high-waist or bellbottom leg. The jeans will be sold exclusively at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Intermix with plans to expand the collection to a full lifestyle collection in the fall. [WWD]
