Breaking news: Galliano officially out at Dior

Galliano arriving at the Paris police station yesterday, shot by Marc Piasecki/Getty Images. WWD is reporting that Christian Dior has officially fired designer, John Galliano. In a statement released by the house, Sidney Toledano, Dior’s president and chief officer firmly condemned Galliano’s behaviour, stating that his comments were in direct opposition to their core values. Despite the recent developments, the house plans to go on with its fall 2011 show slated for this Friday.
Meanwhile, Natalie Portman, the most recent face of Dior Parfums has disassociated herself from the designer, stating, “As an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”

Couture diary: Armani Privé’s goblet of fire, Dior’s jewelled minatures and perusing the fine details at Coco Chanel’s apartment

Chanel Sophia Loren, Jodie Foster and Olivia Wilde squeezed into an empty shop in the corner of the Place Vendome to take in the Armani Privé spring 2011 couture collection, which looked as if it had been poured out of a flaming goblet. The molten fabrics in silver and jewel tones were sculpturally cut, with stiff little peplums or spliced openings across the hips. Imagine a liquefied suit of armour topped with lacquered dinner plate hats. It was all very futuristic Cardin-meets-Lady Gaga.

Paris notes: Sunny frocks at Dior, billowing and body-con at Lanvin, and more [gallery]

CHRISTIAN DIOR Spring 2011. Photography by Peter Stigter There was a strange moment yesterday at the Tuileries when a crowd of several dozen photographers made their way towards the big white show tent for the Christian Dior Spring 2011 show.
The tightly-packed group seemed to glide across the gravel like a swarm of bees. Their cameras were held aloft, but the person at the centre of the pack was totally obscured by beefcake bodyguards.
Who could draw such a fuss? Yves Saint Laurent back from the dead?

John Galliano’s vision of Christmas includes leopards
When we were young, our mom would decorate our Christmas tree entirely with shiny, light pink metal bows, which was so embarrassing, because everyone knows that real Christmas trees have reindeer and tinsel. If anything could have turned our tiny, traditionalist hearts toward decorator trees it would have been John Galliano‘s Dior Tree, unveiled today […]
