Christmas is often the most stressful time of the year for many people. Even more so for those who decide to host the cocktail parties, the dinners, and the new years bashes (hats off to them). Because it’s a party faux pas to show up empty handed—especially when someone has spent hours preparing—we’ve thought of creative Christmas hostess gift ideas for those who bare the grunt of the work.

India Hicks (indiahicks.com) wears many hats (model, author, entrepreneur, wife, mother, daughter of famed interior designer David Hicks, goddaughter of Prince Charles, and real-life Royal—she’s roughly 500th in line to the British throne), but lately she has been focused on another accessory: fine jewellery. Inspired by her father’s strong design aesthetic, her debut collection (available at Holt Renfrew) launches this fall. Here, this Bahamas-based beauty talks family jewels and the great unknown.

This week, we take you inside the zipped croc Marc by Marc Jacobs purse belonging to our lovely beauty editor, Sarah Daniel. She claims that the bag was her first foray into grownup shopping, but we find that hard to believe, given her assortment of beautiful and hard-to-find products, like a sample bottle of perfume that’s got its creator’s handwritten labelling. India Hicks is a glorious force to be reckoned with, somewhat in line with the Energizer bunny and a tornado that keeps picking up speed and momentum. Between spending time with her husband and four children, blogging, tweeting, and working with Crabtree & Evelyn on her India Hicks Island Living and Island Night fragrance collections, Hicks ran a marathon (her third!). Lara Tobin sat down with the interior designer and former model, in town to attend the Canadian Fragrance Awards, to chat about the experience.

So I hear you have just finished a marathon. That’s amazing!
“And I’ve done two other marathons, the London Marathon both times. In London there are 37,000 other runners who are running for causes to raise money. It’s just amazing what people do and there’s this extraordinary sense of support.

“And you know, as you’re running along it’s incredible what you see [when] you get to mile 17 and you’re about to die and give up and a blind man tied to a guide runs past you and you think ‘what am I doing? Get up and move!’ But every time it’s like having a baby. Every time you say never again.”
