Why Vitamin C Continues to Be a Powerhouse for Glowing Skin
Vitamin C is one of the most well known and researched skincare actives, capable of helping to bolster collagen production, dim dark spots and make skin more vibrant. “It’s a skin powerhouse,” says Beth Bialko, director of global curriculum at Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute. And while it’s obviously not new, it continues to […]

Dermalogica Fans Are So Loyal to the Brand That Its Founder Was Accused of Being a Cult Leader
Professional skincare brand Dermalogica, founded by Jane Wurwand, has such a loyal following that in 2011 she was accused of leading a cult or being a scientologist. (Yes, really. And no, she’s not.) During a lunch of pizza and kale salad in the middle of a California heat wave, Wurwand tells the story of her […]

If You Like The Feel Of An Oil But Don’t Want To Look Oily, Try This
I’ve always wondered why my skin turns from run-of-the-mill dry in the summer to flakey, itchy and painful in the winter months. Is it because my darker complexion is meant for a warmer, more tropical climate? Maybe I should be living in Arambol or Ko Pha-ngan. Year-round. Alas, dryness affects all skin tones and, to […]

Why It Might Be Time To Break Up With Your Moisturizer
It’s a commonly held belief that the thicker the face cream, the more moisturizing it is. But a new generation of lightweight, watery serums are packing a hydration punch good enough to forgo your usual creamy go-to. Here’s why it might be time to ditch creamy and heavy in favour of light and silky for […]

12 charcoal beauty products to add to your detox routine
Santa’s go-to offering for the baddies on his naughty list just got a whole lot more valuable. Coal, or to be more specific, charcoal, is beauty’s new favourite buzzword. (Does this mean we can misbehave all year round now?) It’s a carbon that’s been treated to increase its absorbency, and works by attaching itself to […]

10 facial mists to try this summer (because what’s more glam than spritzing fancy water on your face?)
Well, we begged and begged and finally, summer has actually arrived and it’s…humid. Every year, while we’re in the depths of winter, we somehow forget about all of the less-than-wonderful aspects of warmer weather until the sun emerges once again and all of a sudden we’ve gone from frozen to sticky. This summer, keep a […]

Beauty Fix: The perfect Spring shades for your hair, lips and skin
How can I counteract brassy tones in my (bottle) blonde hair? If your blonde hair is looking a little lacklustre and not quite the same flaxen tone you were when you first committed to the bottle, you’re more or less a victim of colour theory. When you colour your hair, there are blue, yellow and […]

What should I use to define my brows that will last through a day at the lake or beach?
Even if you’re in a less-is-more mood for summer, brows still need to have a place in your summer makeup routine since they are so integral to facial structure and appearance. If you find your usual pencil or powder doesn’t stand the test of time when heat comes into play, try Anastasia Dipbrow Brow Pomade ($23, sephora.ca), which essentially replaces a pencil, powder and wax in one genius pot. Use an angled brush to apply for cleanly defined brows that will stay put, even in high humidity, thanks to the waterproof formula. Available in 8 shades means you’re bound to find a match to carry you through the summer. Tip: run a spoolie through brows after applying for a softened, natural finish. -

What should I keep in mind when buying at-home hair colour?
At-home hair colouring is a very cost-effective alternative to salon hair colour visits, especially if you need frequent root touchups. Look for a formula that is easy to apply with minimal mess, like L’Oreal Preference Mousse Absolue Hair Colour ($22, well.ca), which is a mousse colour formula that mixes together as it’s dispensing. Given the unique dispensing system, this at-home hair colour is actually reusable, making it ideal for root touchups or a second full application, depending on your hair length. The resulting hair colour is multi-tonal with full root coverage, giving your hair dimension and shine.
