Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style: 18 shots of brocade, layering and other fall trends on the run outside the first day of shows
View the first batch of Toronto Fashion Week Spring 2013 street style »
Hopefully having a couple of weeks to relax and refresh after the end of Paris Fashion Week did you well, because Fashion Week Spring 2013 continues on. This time the shows are just mere steps from our front doors as Toronto Fashion Week gets underway.
Officially World MasterCard Fashion Week doesn’t start until next week, but that doesn’t mean Fashion Week is already in full swing. Our resident street style photographer Stefania Yarhi was out yesterday snapping all the fashionable Torontonians as they rushed from The Collections to The ShOws. And rush they did! Going from Chloe Comme Parris and Label at the Burroughs Building to Tanya Taylor and Jean-Pierre Braganza at Andrew Richards Design in a small amount of time is no easy feat, but the fashion crowd did their best to not miss these presentations.

TFW diary: Label showed a cute collection, but was it runway worthy?
I am a fan of Label: the clothes are stylish, wearable, and made in Toronto, which is a major bonus. In terms of runway shows though, the collection doesn’t quite stand out—it merely affirms to the many stylish onlookers that these are the trends they should be wearing.
Paired with some lacklustre bangles and Dov Charney–esque glasses were a few richly-hued patterns, shoulderless dresses, an asymmetric shirt hem, and maxi skirts. There were, however, some pieces that stood out: a white, short-sleeved tent-cut button down shirt and the tux tail–like details on the back of a patterned dress had great visual interest. Each look that walked down the runway was cute and commercial, but shouldn’t we expect more from our LG shows?

TFW diary: Dressing for the morning after at LABEL
Cue the video! Our naked protagonist pulls on her tee and leggings strewn across the floor and ties her cardigan around her waist. Hair still in last night’s rat’s nest, she grabs her boots, poncho and bag, before taking the walk of shame… straight onto the LABEL runway. Sure to be a hit among the young, downtown grunge kids⎯as only they can truly pull off crop tops, baby dolls, band tees and elastic-bottom velvet pants⎯the collection was heavy on ‘90s nostalgia. Styled with sheer insouciance, henley tees were layered over leather leggings, and oversize tops with cable knit hot pants. The broken zipper on the cream slip dress almost seemed intentional. And perhaps it was… in the world of the morning after.

Toronto fashion week preview: The new designers on our radar
Last October, a breath of fresh air breezed through the grounds at Heritage Court⎯the home to “official” Toronto fashion week⎯in the form of an über hip group of young fashionites called The Fashion Collective. A sort of mélange of hype-making and style setting, PR maven Kate Mullin, stylist Dwayne Kennedy and producer Brian A. Richards brought the likes of Rita Liefhebber, Thomas, Amanda Lew Kee and Chloé Comme Parris to the official schedule. Whereas the edgy designers such as these would have previously stayed as far away from the official schedule as possible, the group bridged the gap between the established and the upstarts making the official week a hub for all. For the fall 2011 season starting on March 28th, the Collective’s got a whole new bag of tricks up their sleeve, introducing LABEL, Heather Lawton, Sid Neigum, and diepo into the Toronto fashion week womenswear stratosphere. Here’s our sneak peek of what these hot young things have got in store:

Celeb spy
Spotted: VJ Sarah Taylor partying at Chasse Gardée for the launch of Label’s Fall 2009 collection (seenolabel.com). Loved the hot little neon-paint-splashed number.
