Lanvin is likely the next up for an H&M line
That squealing sound you heard this morning was the (virtual, anyway) sound of Lanvin lovers everywhere exclaiming in delight over the very probable rumour that the house will be the next H&M pair up. An insider speculated to WWD that the “Designer Collaborations 2010” video actually featured the disguised voice of Alber Elbaz saying, “Design […]

Fashion news: Victoria’s Secret sued, Jeanne Beker on stage and Kanye West’s leather pants addiction
Victoria’s Secret is being sued by shoe company Valley Lane Industries for US$48 million. The company claims that VS forced a Chinese supplier, who had worked with the smaller company for 25 years, to end their partnership so that the lingerie brand could work with the supplier exclusively. Says a lawyer for Valley Lane: “Victoria’s Secret has done everything they could to put them out of business.” Trouble in diamond-studded paradise? [NYDN]
But things aren’t all bad for VS. They’ve recently launched a new bra, the Incredible, and to celebrate, Chanel Iman, Candice Swanepoel and Erin Heatherton appeared on Fox & Friends, where they had the arduous task of explaining the new brassiere to two male anchors. See the exchange above. [Huffington Post]

Fashion news: Marc and Lorenzo split, Valentino wins a 16-year legal battle and Snooki is the new Liz Taylor
Marc and Lorenzo in happier times. *sniff* Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone are no longer an item. While there may be “break-up rumours were false!” updates–and the inevitable “rumours that the break-up was false, were false!” updates–Martone maintains, via Twitter, that they’ve been split for about two months. So maybe this time it’s for real. Boo. [The Cut]
The much cackled about Snooki, gossip fodder and star of Jersey Shore, has just been compared to Elizabeth Taylor by fashion writer Cathy Horyn. Why? Images of Liz, recently published in Vanity Fair, “confirm a short, busty woman with high hair, big jewelry, garish taste in clothes and a complete indifference to the cyclonic effect that all that produced.” [NYTimes]

Fashion news: Hermès scarf how-to, Miranda Kerr marries Orlando Bloom and candlelit shopping at Lanvin
image via Racked NY Hermès has taken a hint from Burberry‘s Art of the Trench campaign. The French fashion house has just unveiled its J’aime mon carré project, which celebrates the iconic Hermes scarf. A website will soon be launched to feature tips on how to wear and knot the scarf and information on any scarf-related events. [Vogue UK]
The new Lanvin freestanding store in New York–which, with fox fur benches and chandeliers sounds like an absolute retail reverie–officially postponed its opening because of electricity failures, but some well-to-do New Yorkers were allowed to shop by candlelight. [Racked]

Fashion news: Lanvin’s NY boutique, Lacroix designer considering fast fashion and how Beckham introduced the straight man to fashion
Dolce & Gabbana, Photography by Peter Stigter While it’s easy to slam David Beckham – and anything Becks related- as excessive, Stephano Gabbana (of Dolce & Gabbana) will argue that that excess actually revolutionized men’s fashion. “Here was a soccer player who is straight, with a wife and children, and men were saying: ‘If he wore it, I can wear it too.’ Before that it felt like men’s fashion was just for gay men or strange people – men were afraid to wear something special.” [Vogue UK]
Lanvin will open its first New York boutique by the end of this week. “It’s about time,” says creative director Alber Elbaz. Great, now take that same mentality and shift it to the other side of the border… [WWD]

Fashion news: Marc Jacobs’ guilty pleasure, fashion’s Farmville and Rodarte and M.A.C. apologize for their controversial line
Photo by Peter Stigter Rodarte and M.A.C Cosmetics have sparked quite the controversy with their recent makeup collaboration, where a nail lacquer shade was named after Juárez, a Mexican town that happens to be notorious for its high rape and murder rates. The Rodarte designers have already apologized, “We never intended to make light of this serious issue and we are truly sorry,” and M.A.C sent an email to editors saying they will be changing the name of the shade. [Vogue UK and The Cut]
Just because he designs for some of the world’s biggest luxury hounds, doesn’t mean Marc Jacobs doesn’t have time for the other side of the spectrum: “OK, recently I watched every episode of Jersey Shore‘s first season. I don’t know if it was any good and I certainly didn’t learn anything, but it was definitely hypnotic and it gave my brain a vacation.” [The Cut]

Fashion news: Alber Elbaz’s sad birthday, Dior’s gold contacts and Target pulls fascist tee
Photography by Peter Stigter Jil Sander will live-stream tomorrow’s Men’s SS 11 show on the brand’s website. Tune in tomorrow at 3:15 p.m. EST. [Fashionista]
Happy (belated) birthday to poor Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz, who describes his lavish celebration as such: “I was at the Air France lounge waiting to get on the flight to New York, and the airline attendant presented me with a muffin. I think we both felt embarrassed.” [Racked]

Fashion news: Superhero fashion in Paris, RIP Tyra Show and the Kaiser wants it all
image of Karl Lagerfeld Green Lantern gloves via Racked Happy birthday to Batman, Superman, Catwoman, et al. Parisian boutique Colette is celebrating DC Comics‘ 75th anniversary with a superhero-inspired collection by the likes of Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin and Thierry Larsly. Suffice to say this isn’t tacky paraphernalia, more like sexy Catwoman boots (Roger Vivier) and bejeweled leather gloves (Lagerfeld) a la Green Lantern. [Racked]
Patricia Field, the costume director of a certain monstrous sequel has just released a swimwear collection. Be generous with the sunblock to avoid some crazy tan lines. [The Cut]

Fashion news: Robin Kay speaks out about the Holts FWeek breakfast [updated], Canadians are safe shoppers and Shu Uemura to cease U.S. operations
Allegations made by models of Terry Richardson‘s inappropriate behaviour haven’t seemed to effect his career or his reputation, as the photographer was back to work, shooting model Doutzen Kroes for Vogue in Miami yesterday. [Vogue UK]
FDCC prez Robin Kay spoke out at yesterday’s Holt Renfrew‘s media breakfast, which showcased work from five Canadian designers who don’t show at LG Fashion Week. (Watch for our coverage of the event later today.) Holts brought in Vogue writer Mark Holgate, who will not be attending the main event at the Allstream Centre [UPDATE: Mark Holgate attended the IZMA show on Sunday night with Holt Renfrew’s communications director, Moira Wright.] Kay told the Toronto Star: “Holt Renfrew is a sponsor – with their largesse they should have made a point of bringing that gentleman to the site to see that we are a fashion week and to see designers he may not have heard of. That’s a sponsor’s duty and responsibility.” For Holts’ part, their fashion VP Barbara Atkin said: ““[Bringing these designers to fashion week] is something we’ve talked about and we are in discussions about.” [Toronto Star, via Toronto Life]
With J.Crew scouting locations and Victoria’s Secret‘s plans to open four north-of-the-49th stores, Canada has become the ‘it’ place for retailers looking to open international stores–because we’re nearby and not that exotic, apparently. Says the Wall Street Journal: “Canadians tend to be slower, steadier shoppers than Americans, with a preference for higher-quality goods and more interest in outdoor looks.” Gotta love the stereotypes, eh. Vote: Do you like January Jones’ Golden Globes hair?
Let’s start right off by saying that we love January Jones in this jet black Lanvin at last night’s Golden Globes. The dress is simple, but still has enough going on to be interesting–that big graphic ruffle on her shoulder is divine. But we’re not really loving that headband. In theory, a simple black ribbon […]
