They said/We said: It’s final – Marc Jacobs isn’t going to Dior
November has not been Marc Jacobs’ month. After the Spring 2012 samples from his own line in London and now Louis Vuitton merchandise stolen in Paris, it’s being reported that he is not going to replace John Galliano at Dior after all those rumours. Earlier this month it was speculated that talks between Jacobs and Dior had come to a halt because of Jacobs and business partner Robert Duffy’s unreasonable demands. Now, a source close to the situation, who has remained anonymous, has confirmed with Fashionista that negotiations had stopped by mid-November due to money issues and due to Jacobs’ wanting to transfer his team and aesthetic over to Dior.

The new networking: How to find your dream job on Twitter

Those in a position to hire you for your dream job are closer than you think, but you’ll need the right tools to find them.
Back in February, Marc Jacobs International was looking for a social media staffer. The company eschewed the standard job boards and headhunters and went straight to the medium itself, sending out a rallying cry from its Twitter account (@MarcJacobsIntl): “We are interviewing only people who are tweeting us. Be clever. Smart. Understand our DNA. Say it in one tweet! That is your interview!” One hundred and forty characters isn’t exactly a lot of space in which to shine, but this one tweet sums up the new world order if you’re hunting for your dream job. Never mind mixers and events and cold calls—if you want to be proactive about landing a plum gig, you need to take the party to social media.

They said/We said: We weigh in on Hailee Steinfeld’s banned Miu Miu ad
Just weeks after banning Dakota Fanning’s ad for Marc Jacobs’ Oh Lola! fragrance because they decided it sexualized children, the British Advertising Standards Agency is now claiming that one of Hailee Steinfeld’s Miu Miu ads is “irresponsible because it depicts a child in an unsafe location.”
The ad in question was shot by Bruce Weber and features Steinfeld sitting on train tracks, which clearly looks staged to evoke her gun-slinging Mattie Ross in True Grit. Seeing as most publications will be moving on to Spring 2012 adverts with their next issues, we’re not exactly sure where the complaint will lead, but it’s safe to say that it’s got the industry riled up over a whole lot of nothing.
With all of the recent controversy over Steinfeld’s and Fanning’s ads and Vogue Paris’s editorial featuring 10-year-old model Thylane Loubry Blondeau this past July, we wonder whether hiring younger models will become out-moded. With Miu Miu’s recent revealing 34-year-old Guinevere Van Seenus as the star of their new campaign, it’s a possibility.

Marc Jacobs might not go to Dior after all. Who of the other rumoured designers would you like to see take the helm?
And the plot thickens. WWD is reporting a breakdown in the rumoured talks between Dior and Marc Jacobs. Quelle surprise! Well, not really, if you ask us. Since talks began in late August, there have been reports of exorbitant demands made by Jacobs as well as his business partner Robert Duffy, which lead us to believe that perhaps the designer never wanted to leave Louis Vuitton at all?
Meanwhile, with rumours of Dior approaching everyone under the sun to take the helm, from couture master Riccardo Tisci to street maven (and totally inappropriate for the role in our minds) Alexander Wang, it seems that the designer carousel won’t be stopping anytime soon.

They said/We said: Oh Lola! Dakota Fanning’s questionably inappropriate ad for Marc Jacobs’ new fragrance is banned in the UK
Marc Jacobs’ new fragrance Oh, Lola!, described by the designer as the more sensual sister to Lola, his previous bestselling scent, is proving to live up to its Lolita namesake.
The ad for the fragrance, which features teenage It girl Dakota Fanning and was photographed by Juergen Teller, has been banned in the UK. The British Advertising Standards Authority claims they received complaints that the ad is sexualizing children since Fanning is seen holding the bottle between her legs while wearing a short skirt. Coty, the company that produces the fragrance disagrees with the BSA’s rulings, arguing that the ad isn’t indecent since it doesn’t show “any private body parts or sexual activity.” They also point out that the fragrance’s target audience (people age 25 and over) wouldn’t find the image offensive since it appears alongside similar images in “highly stylized fashion magazines.”
On the other hand, Jacobs may possibly consider the ad a success, since he picked Fanning to star in the campaign because he thought she could be a contemporary Lolita—seductive, yet sweet.
