They said/We said: What we think about the Glee kids hitting up Fashion’s Night Out
Those of you who thought that Anna Wintour dubbing “geek” as “chic” at the Webbys was a one-time deal, think again: the cast of Glee will be featured during the third annual Fashion’s Night Out event on September 8.
Cast members including Canuck Cory Monteith, Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, and Darren Criss will make appearances at retail locations in New York and Los Angeles. Bee Shaffer—Wintour’s daughter and currently an associate managing producer in Los Angeles for Ryan Murphy’s production company, which produces Glee—supposedly set up the appearances.
Previously at FNO, Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler sang show tunes with Oscar de la Renta and Alexander Wang, and his supermodel clique danced in the windows of his store. Hopefully, the cast of Glee will prepare some original performances for FNO in lieu of repeating previously aired acts. Who wouldn’t love to see a little fashion-fuelled Gaga/Glee routine while shopping like an A-lister?
Can’t make it to New York City or Los Angeles in September? Fear not: American e-commerce sites including Net-a-Porter and Shopbop will participate in FNO for the first time this year. All you’ll need to get the full experience from home is a credit card and a Glee soundtrack.

TFW backstage beauty: VAWK
We’re still in love with the teal eye Gucci Westman created for Oscar De La Renta’s Spring 2011 collection. So when we ventured backstage at VAWK, we were pumped to find L’Oréal Paris Lead Makeup Artist Eddie Malter applying the cerulean hue on a model’s lids. “Sunny wanted a strong eye,” explained Malter. Fong gave him a swatch from the collection and asked him to match the shade. The fabric’s cosmetic equivalent? HIP Shadow Duo in Showy. Malter circled it around the eyes and minutes before show time, dabbed a clear lip gloss over top for a hit of shine. To bring more attention to the upper part of the face, he buffed a tawny blush high on cheekbones and kept the mouth muted, pressing a pale coral into the lips.

NYFW trend alert: Shoulder-duster earrings at Oscar de la Renta
Judging from the swinging, statement-making earrings at Oscar de la Renta’s fall 2011 show, jewellery is back in a big way (cue the Hallelujah chorus). From Karlie’s ‘40s-inspired beaded tassels to Carmen’s gunmetal and ruby crystals, shoulder duster earrings have swept back onto the style scene this season. Watch for these movers-and-shakers to make a red-carpet appearance at the upcoming Academy Awards.

Celeb poll: Who did brights the best at the SAG Awards?
The red carpet at last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards in LA was just like the spring runways: bright, bright and brighter! Newcomers Hailee Steinfeld and Jennifer Lawrence looked as if they planned to match in their similarly sunny orange and pink hues (in Prada and Oscar de la Renta respectively). Meanwhile, Black Swan leading ladies Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis played on their roles in the film, Natalie in a stunning white Azzaro and Mila in a dramatic Alexander McQueen. Who wore bright the best? Have your say, after the jump!

Fashion news: Everyone gets a fragrance, Tod’s vows to rebuild the Colosseum and Oscar de la Renta is ticked off
By Renee Reardin Heidi Klum is launching her first fragrance, appropriately(?) titled Shine. Meanwhile, Orlando Bloom replaces Miranda’s role in the modeling world while she’s on maternity leave. [E] Tod’s CEO, Diego Della Valle, has offered up the 25 million euro needed to renovate the Colosseum. After almost 2,000 years in business, we guess it […]

Fashion news: Oscar de la Renta and Olivier Theyskens are caught in the Rumour web
Rumours have been circulating that Oscar de la Renta is not well enough to work, after having hip replacement surgery in September. Not true, according to his his representatives, who added that “there is no plan whatsoever to even think of replacing him as the creative head.” [Styleite]
Nars is opening its first stand-alone shop in New York (of course). The new boutique will be located on Bleecker Street and is slated to open in Spring 2011. [Racked NY]
Olivier Theyskens seems to be caught in a web of gossip these days. The latest story to emerge from the rumour mill: Theyskens has turned down Dior,Oscar de la Renta and Valentino in hopes of taking the top spot at Lanvin. [The Cut]

Fashion news: Toddler walks at Chanel; Kanye West only follows models on Twitter
Karl Lagerfeld seems to be in a very forgiving mood these days. First Ines de la Fressange returned to his catwalk and then Lily Allen, who was rumoured to have fallen out of favour, was spotted sitting front row at the Chanel Spring 2011 fashion show today. [Racked]
Model Brad Kroenig walked the Chanel runway with his toddler son wearing matching Chanel jackets and jeans. Is a childrenswear line in the works? [Racked]

NYFW Diary: Wild West at Ralph Lauren and minimalism at Jeremy Laing
It’s the last day of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week but it’s not a teary farewell. After all, I get to start my morning off with a little classic Americana–Ralph Lauren!
Judging from all the fringe, cowgirl jackets, suede and blanket patterns seen on his spring runway, it looks like we’re heading to the ranch with Ralph. Even Lauren’s wife, Ricky Lauren, got into the country cool spirit in her fringe-y little jacket.

Fashion news: Gaga in Prada, snowboarding models and authorities still telling kids to pull up their pants
Yesterday, we reported Lady Gaga‘s odd absence from the red carpet at the Met Gala. While the wires were oddly empty of Gaga in the Prada tux she reportedly wore after changing out of her sparkly catsuit, The Cut recently published a rare shot of Gaga in said tux. With no spikes or sequins or live animals protruding from the outfit, Gaga looks strangely… normal. [The Cut]

Fashion’s Night Out, a shopping celebration organized by Vogue in each of its global cities has expanded from a one night affair into six nights. What was last year referred to as a “drunken chaos,” and saw Barbara Walters singing a duet with Oscar de la Renta, will kick off in France on September 7, end in Greece and Turkey on the 16th, with countries like Britain, Australia, India and Taiwan in between. Sadly, Canada was nowhere to be seen on the bill. [WWD]

Fashion news: Oscar de la Renta calls couture “irrelevant,” the Kaiser collects an award and Victoria Beckham to design for Beyoncé
Oscar de la Renta claims that the days of women sporting couture are done, saying, “Couture has become completely irrelevant. Customers are smart. They know that a $10,000 wedding dress will look as beautiful as a $1 million wedding dress. Maybe it will not be finished the same way inside, but who will know?” Touché. [The Cut]
The entire cast and crew of SATC 2 are tight-lipped when it comes to the plot of the film; but after allegedly signing a confidentiality agreement which could cost them up to about $2.5 million if they slip any details, who wouldn’t be?! Kim Cattrall had a close call after being photographed holding the script with a few of the words visible, saying after, “I thought: “You have got to be kidding! This isn’t state secrets, it’s the f****** script for a movie!” It’s crazy. You really have to be careful because I’ve signed my life away to say I won’t tell. It gets to the point where you’re terrified to carry your script around in case someone catches a glimpse of it.” [Vogue UK]

Oscar de la Renta still fits “every single dress” on his models
No one can charm the ladies like Oscar de la Renta, who swooped into Toronto yesterday by P.J. (That’s billionaire shorthand for private jet, my friends.)
De la Renta was in town for a fundraising fashion show and gala, but squeezed in an intimate hour with VIP clients at Holt Renfrew’s Bloor St. flagship.
The 77-year-old designer captivated with tales of his childhood and one true confession: He never went to fashion school.
